Description: The Morane Saulnier MS406 was a French fighter of the Second World War. It’s development started in 1934 as the MS405. It was made to meet the requirements expressed by the C1 competition emitted by the French Air Force. After an extremely slow development, in 1937, after various tests on the prototype, the French Air Force ordered a total of 16 pre-production units. The prototypes and the pre-production units presented a lot of differences, mainly improvements made on the pre-production model. The name of the new units was changed to MS406. The first one was able to take off for the first time in February 1938. The French Air Force was impressed by its performance and immediately put the aircraft into mass production with three different companies. Before the Second World War broke out, a total of 1000 units were entered into service with the French Air Force, and over 100 units were exported to various countries, such as Turkey and Finland. In the Second World War, aircraft were mainly used against the German forces during the Battle of France and the Japanese air force during the invasion of the various French colonies. During the Invasion of France, the Italian forces managed to get their hands on a total of 57 units (even if the information is contradictory on this number; some sources state 31, some from 24 to 28, and another one states 57). Those units were taken and sent back to Italy to be studied and evaluated. Even though they were tested a good number of times, they were not used in combat, and at the time of the armistice, they remained unused. It’s not clear what their ultimate fate was since no data is available.
Why it should be in game: Like a lot of other captured fighters alredy in game, it could be a good addition in the premium section of the Italian tt.
