Would not be opposed to this, I think the ability to chaff missiles reliably at close ranges is incredibly annoying personally.

I mean it would be dependent a lot on the band of the seeker no? I’d imagine it’s a lot more accurate on MMW radars like the brimstone 1’s, since their smaller wavelength allows for easier discrimination of targets in proximity, and MTI modes are how air to ground ARHs work anyways.

Fox-3 seekers in the game have angular gate (angular acceleration rejection), which prevents them from being decoyed by chaffing while notching on short ranges, However, the nearby chaff doesn’t allow seeker to see the target - the missile prolongate lost target track and steers on it.

Shorter wavelength for the same antenna size - better angular resolution and precision, but shorter detection range. This is why I-J bands are the best choice for SAM and AAM seekers.

@k_stepanovich Could I ask you a question m8, which team set are you with as Smin said there are teams for air, ground and naval ?

If you don’t feel comfortable answering then that’s fine, it’s just a wondering question that popped into my head.

It’d be a cool thing to see implemented on AESA ARHs, given the angular resolution on stuff like the AAM-4B is good enough to be used for RF imaging.

„Stationary low–RCS Target“. It seems some kind of synthetic Radar aperture is used. This technology uses Doppler effect for picture tangential resolution. Not useful for moving targets.

Yeah this mode specifically is actually for the ASM-3, not for use by the AAM-4B itself (They share a seeker head). However even SAR modes have pre-requisite angular resolution requirements. Particularly for missiles, in which they do not have the time to construct maps from dozens of scans. So I do think that it could be said this is proof of good angular resolution.

And I don’t think its using doppler returns for tangential resolution, given it says for targets with low doppler signatures in one of the included documents.

personally i find my missiles are able to be chaffed quite easily around the 2-3km distance mark from the target. instead of locking the chaff and but continueing on the aircraft path, it locks the chaff and turns, effectively making the missile wasted. Why is this?

This is when angle gating was added for in-game Fox-3. Players immediately reacted on increased chaff resistance.

Would be interesting to see it re-added a year on, with the new kit.

Its stupid that range is totally irrelevant on Fox-3s because they are just too easy to defeat if given time to react. So even though C5 should outrange everyone else, its rare to fire and kill beyond 20km

When a target notches and chaffs the missile always instantly retargets the chaff and peels away. I’ve not seen a Fox-3 kill a target in a notch via it swapping to IOG in a long time. I assumed it had been removed from the game

We still have angle-gating, missiles still do hit you if you’re notching but don’t deviate from trajectory (most of the time), it is just the case that sometimes the missiles do go for chaff once they have been angle-gated and the target has maneuvered outside of the expected trajectory and only chaff is in the remaining area.

how is this even a thing in the game still, he was spinning in mid air before shooting and he was hit in the middle by an r27er

definetly not most of the time, i very rarely see angle gating do anything at close range, i always defend as if it was a thing but most times the missile just screws off into chaff

99.99% of the time. I defeat missiles just fine by flying in a perfectly straight line and I align to RWR or MAWS to achieve notch and drop chaff. I dont change course after the missile has stopped tracking as it just always goes for the chaff. The few times I have still been killed. I assume the missile just got too close for the seeker to see chaff. Usually because I was defending against multiple threats and so was too late in defending.

and this is with BOL Chaff.

Had this happen multiple times today. Actually probably about 50% of my deaths are from people I killed spamming missiles at me after I moved onto the next target.

They’ve failed misserably with all the changes theyve tried to make to resolve this
