Modern ARH (FOX 3) Missile - History, Performance & Discussion

Japan is not in the main program and it’s for their own modification.

Most likely indeed. I have a feeling most long range fox3s will be a bit of a gimmick if they don’t rework sekers

I think it was planned but discontinued. Japan was originally not in the program and it’s quite possible france used a veto tbh (at least it sounds like something DGA or french gov would do)

As far as i get it’s still in the work or it ended being stopped in favor of the new missiles made in GCAP and the veto is just a theory.
There were some news about it at some point.

Ah… That would make sense, but did wonder if it was part of the 6th gen program

Yeah… Though I think the first thing that needs to be done is overhaul the IR side of the game and then overhaul radars and SARH/ARH seekers after that alongside ECM introduction

It’s all still blury atm

Last info from MBDA :

Yeah well, it looks like next gen BVRAAM project will be handled with UK and France (and probably ending up doing a meteor like projects with the differents countries) but short range internally to each plane program i would guess at least by looking at iris-t fcaam ?

That would be my guess too

iris-t is a Diehl missile, not MBDA though

Yeah but it is planned for FCAS.

JNAAM was a joint project, both Japan and Britain were in the project. It was cancelled though, so who knows what the individual Meteor MLU and AAM-6 will use

Doubt that any of these seekers made into rusia, with China - maybe, as they did asked Ukraine for some repair/maintance/produce new R-27

You guys are heavily underestimating multiple pulsed motor designs and wingless body lift missile enhancements.

Derby → I-Derby → I-Derby ER

And also, the I-Derby ER’s range is about that of a Aim-120C-5 IRL last I checked. It’s not anything close to the other longer Range AAMs you listed there. It’s good, but it’s not that good in terms of range.

wasn’t necessarily talking about range, more about “meta”. and derby with it’s ridiculous acceleration and still decent off bore performance imo will be better than future aim 120 and aim 260 variants for that. and it still has decent range due to the dual pulse. considering how trash the 120c5 is at off bore, I have very low expectations of future aim 120 and aim 260s

It should be that way, but ingame the derby we have now is hardly better than the Aim-120A/B in HOBS and the Aim-120C-5 with its clipped fins it better than it. It’s also supposed to be pulling ~50G+ with dual plane pull, but gaijin still hasn’t modeled it. Not to mention the I-Derby ER has its roll fins removed which could impact its instantaneous turning performance even more then that, but also reduced its drag. I honestly think some of those missiles would reach targets faster than it, but yeah it could possibly be better at closer ranges against non TVC ARH AAMs.

I’m sure Russia has a stock of their own.

Thats literally Ukrainian made seeker…

I’m talking about the ones with the MK-80/MK-80M seeker

Japan also should have actually JP MAWS option, ie the F-15J(M)'s rear waring sensor, the F-15J(M)'s IRST pod (which can function as a MAWS). And the F-2’s AESA should be able to detect missile launches (It is unclear if IRL this is only for high caliber ASM/Cruise missiles, or smaller AAMs, however warthunder puts them in the same detection category so it really shouldn’t matter).

That’s cool, so f-2 basically gets frontal radar maws, and f15jm gets frontal ir maws?
