Modeling Autocannon Fire Accuracy

Currently Gaijin is modeling the same accuracy for low and high rate of fire autocannons. I believe that autocannons with a lower rate of fire should be given a higher accuracy value than autocannons with higher rate of fire. The physics behind this is already well known and even Gaijin acknowledges that a lower rate of fire results in more accuracy.

This would provide balance to all autocannon vehicles as those with lower rate of fire will be able to help target specific parts of the tank like the barrel, even from larger distances.
IRL accuracy changes based on the autocannon so accuracy should have two values, one higher for lower rate of fire autocannons and another lower for higher rate of fire autocannons.

For that reason, the British mounted the L21A1 cannon on their vehicles and the South Africans decided to mount their Denel GI-30 cannon, because both had a low rate of fire but very good accuracy, but of course this is not reflected in the game and makes the cannon with the higher rate of fire win, when it should be the least accurate.

I agree, lower rate of fire autocannons need to have some sort of advantage. Currently higher rate of fire autocannons break tracks and barrels much more faster. And obviously suppresses positions easily too.

And it’s not just the rate of fire; for example, the British cannon has a long recoil, so the vehicle doesn’t experience as much recoil when firing and can continue firing accurately. Meanwhile, the South African cannon fires with a closed breech, which gives it greater accuracy.

For now, an extremely easy fix for Gaijin would be just focusing on accuracy based on rate of fire considering how slow they fix these bugs.

I must add for this discussion that fire rate and accuracy of autocannons reflect IRL doctrines like the Soviets would rush towns and whatever with their BMPs and just try providing as much cover as possible, whereas things like the Rarden and GI-30 focus more on killing the enemy fire accurately and efficiently

This is a good point, but military doctrine has no place in Gaijin as we saw how Western radar CAS missiles were not allowed even though they were made over IR missiles based on doctrine. In game assists and kills matter more. Currently higher rate of fire autocannons are much better at this so lower rate of fire autocannons need to be able to aim for weakspots.

Yup

Current game balance provides higher ROF autocannons with worse ammunition, so its kinda already balanced?

No it is not, BMPT does not have apfsds but kills MBTs from all sides faster than the puma

provided it cant penetrate most MBTs frontally… yeah sure.

I’ve died several times from apds penetrating the turret ring. That high rate of fire is great for spraying. If you think the lack of apfsds is balancing, go to test drive and try shooting the BMPT vs the puma against t90 vs Abrams and see the difference

if it was M1 - no doubt. It still isnt the reason to nerf fast-firing autocannons

It pens the turret ring of oplot too. It’s not just Abram’s but a lot more.

As UniqueScorpian said the CV9030 is more scary than any BMP because it will always 2 tap a barrel unlike the BMP.

So I’m gonna say skill issue, should have side climbed and that 30mm trashmaster’s are OP

With more autocannon IFVs for NATO coming, this will become more of an urgent issue

Gaijin decreased accuracy of 35mm SPAA autocannons by %15.

Ive had it go through my Challenger 2s LFP. It should not be able to do that.

May I ask what reasons you’d be willing to accept for a more realistic representation of autocannons? Bushmasters having low accuracy and low rate of fire while Russian 30mm autocannons have BOTH high accuracy and a high rate of fire defies reason and logic.

Autocannons need fixing urgently, I wouldn’t even mind them postponing the update to fix them.

The utter stupidity of the current system can be summed up in one image

In what world is this justifiable in a game which is supposed to be realistic? They will go to great lengths to model detailed radar and vehicle characteristics but then they do that. It’s baffling and stupid.
