Model the cockpits of more planes

We’r getting on the 4++ gen fighter jets but ww2 bombers yet dont have their cockpit modeled ? why?
Its not like an very hard thing to do, specially considering that most if not all of those planes have images of their irl cockpits for reference and its pretty much just add props that are already done or will be done once and copied and pasted over lots of planes

An example are the DO217’s there are lots of those but i doubt it would be much different from one to another .

How the cockpit should be

How it is in game

Adding this sort of detail brings the game an idea of care, looking at those awfull placeholder cockpits for years and yet they still the same … The lack of small details brings the game down quite a bit , as some new games (not necessarily this same style of game) are bringing more small details to make the game devs feel more afectionated and careful with their project.

Its something small that brings something good for the game and community and can be done a bit per update , like adding 1 or 2 per update would be very good already!

Exactly this, no one should be expecting all cockpit placeholders to be replaced in one update, but 1 or 2 at a time would be great. And it’s not just bombers, there’s a few low tier fighters/strike aircraft that are missing their cockpits and a lot of helicopters too like the MH-60L, Mi-8’s and the Ka-29 just to name a few.

Just adding a cockpit or two in an update to work through the backlog of missing cockpits would be a great start. But because it won’t make Gaijin much money we likely will never see many of these replaced with correct cockpits.

You mentioned bombers but then pictured the cockpit of a 217 nightfighter…I don’t know how this game compares to the historical aircraft but this is how the 217 bombers should look:

Additionally, the winner of the worst cockpit is the Bv 238 V4:

Ik i said bombers but this topic is meant for all planes without an modeled cockpit, and the reference image i got was from the same model as the in game print, both the do217n-1

I think I heard a reason why Gaijin doesn’t add bomber cockpits in this game.
a few years ago. from Stona or Kiryl maybe?
(My memories about it are fading, so few inaccuracies can be founded)

  1. The cockpit for a bomber(only for the cockpit) requires 2-5 times more effort than a single-seater with a cockpit.

  2. Nearly nobody plays bombers in cockpit view, even on SB. Bomber players are very few, and even fewer players playing them on cockpit view

  3. So, adding cockpits for bombers are waste of precious resources which can be used for better.

  4. if you want one of these, model it and submit it to us.

:/

We all know adding 5 advanced jets (which can be used as tons of C&P) acts way more profitable than 1 bomber cockpit(which is unique for one or two variants only), isn’t it? :(

Tragic.
I really want to see the cockpit of Lancaster but I am sure it will come out later than F-22.

It’s probably way easier as well.

Personally, I think that we don’t need fully modelled cockpits, but we also need better ones that what we have now. It doesn’t need to be hyper accurate, it just needs to look better than the 2 polygon mess that we have now.

That is why I don’t like their decision.
I think they were just trying to find an excuse not to work on the ‘new cockpit’.

‘if it isn’t hyper-accurate, you guys will be mad. so what is different between now and the new one?’
maybe?
Clearing obstacles for snatching money with advanced C&P premium jets.

Of course, Hyper-accurate one can be juicy and super fun.
But I am sure that the tiniest playerbase who plays bomber in ARB might want to bargain with Gaijin about sacrificing a few accuracies for a new cockpit.

Man, the PS1 version of bomber cockpits in the PS1 game might have better accuracy than this 2 polygon mess. For Christ’s sake.

My latest wish?

Give the Mustang Mk Ia and the P-51 Cannonstang/P-51C-10 mustangs an openable canopy.

While watching a replay of my British mustang, I noticed it already exists in third person:

However, while flying in cockpit view I have no option to open or close it.

Italian planes already have similar “Opens on the side” style cockpit designs so it’s clearly feasible (has precedent)

I also feel in general the cockpit could use a touch-up. It’s supposed to be a premium plane, yet the instrument panels feels a bit low-quality compared to my spitfires or late P51s. It feels “flat” for lack of a better word?

Like, look at Ki-61-I Hei, Bf109F4 and Spitfire Mk IX:

Spoiler

I guess the best way I can explain the difference is the dials feel “flat” and “painted on” in the P-51 cannonstang while the example planes feel like they have an actual depth to them.

Of the bunch, the Ki-61 also feels more painted, while the Bf109 and Spitfire feel the most… “tactile”

This is what I could find for the early mustang’s cockpit:

Maybe it’s the ability to reflect /interact with light that creates this difference in feel?

I found prolly the best demonstrator of what I mean by “the instruments look weird.”
Spitfire MkVb vs Spitfire XIV. Oddly, the lower BR one has better cockpit appearance.

Maybe some spitfire got revamped cockpit detail a few years ago.
I think I saw Devblog about it. Don’t know when exactly it was. though.

Do we need to ask Smin when it was?

What gets me most is when premium planes have placeholder cockpits, and when these cockpits look awful. I play with the B-25J-30 with the soviets, the whole interior is poorly done and doesn’t look like the actual thing.

I get it that not all planes can get fully realistic cockpits, but let’s at least get them look like what they’re supposed to and, especially for premium planes, let’s get actual cockpits since people pay for them!
As to telling players to model the cockpits, I’m sure some of us out there would be glad to help them with it if they’d really put the new models in the game, but for that they’d need to give people some material to work with
