Mitsubishi G4M1 Model 11 mod. August 1943 (三菱 地上攻撃機 一一型)
Mitsubishi G4M1 Model 11 mod. August 1943 is the last modification of the basic variant of the G4M1 bomber. The modification involved upgrading the produced G4M1 to the standards of the G4M2 Model 22 aircraft. The aircraft of this version were produced from August 1943 to January 1944 when the production of G4M1 aircraft was completed. It is not precisely known how many G4M1 Model 11 mod. August 1943 were created.
History
In 1943, the Japanese had already noticed a significant air superiority of the Americans at that moment, which is why they gradually began improving the basic bomber G4M1 (at the same time, work was ongoing on the G4M2 Model 22). In the spring of 1943, the first significant changes were introduced to the G4M1 aircraft. The first was the installation of a 30mm thick rubber covering under the wings to protect the fuel tanks from shooting from below. Additionally, cut shields were introduced for the Type 99 cannon in the tail (a visible modification in War Thunder) and a 5mm thick armor plate for the tail gunner’s protection. Quickly, as a field modification, the tips of the tail gunner’s shield were trimmed, which greatly improved the firing angle. However, the wartime situation was increasingly deteriorating for the Japanese. In the summer of 1943, the production of the Mitsubishi G4M2 model 22 was slowly beginning to ramp up, but the Japanese Navy could not wait. It was decided to apply new shields for the rear gunner, which were to be fitted to the G4M2 aircraft. It was decided to simplify the glazing of the cover for the rear shooter, and to modify the shooting slot to be in the shape of a V, which improved visibility for the shooter. Additionally, gas tanks were introduced, which improved the survivability of the aircraft. This variant was put into production in August 1943 and was produced until January 1944. Aircraft of this type mainly participated in night harassment raids.
Construction description
The Mitsubishi G4M1 Model 11 Mod. August 1943 is similar to the G4M1 from the game, but there are important differences for the game that I will try to describe here.
- Under the wings, in the area of the fuel tanks, rubber coverings with a thickness of 30mm are installed.
- Due to increased air resistance (rubber covers on the underside of the wings), the maximum speed of the aircraft decreased by 9 km/h and the range was reduced by 300 km.
- Fuel tanks are protected by an engine fire extinguisher based on compressed carbon dioxide.
- The glazing of the rear shooter has been simplified and is shaped like a V.
- A 5mm armor plate was introduced to protect the rear shooter.

Summary
The Mitsubishi G4M1 Model 11 Mod. August 1943 is an interesting aircraft for Japan in War Thunder. This bomber has better survivability compared to the base G4M1 in the game, thanks to its partial resistance to catching fire and greater survivability of the tail gunner. This aircraft would be a very good addition to the G4M1 folder in the game. I encourage you to discuss in the comments and to share your own knowledge on this subject.
Finally, I apologize for the linguistic and logical errors because unfortunately English is not my main language and I had to use google translator.
