Mitsubishi F-4EJ Kai

I have confirmed that there is a document in the National Diet Library that compares the performance of the AAM-2 and AIM-4D.
I believe that the AAM-2 (and AIM-4D) were very low performance missiles, but if the implementation is in favor of the F-4EJ (Not Kai) I would consider ordering them along with the F-11F and F-100J documents.
I can’t make any promises though, as it costs money to order them!

So… with the introduction of the Aim-9M on the dev server, could we maybe expect an inkling for something viable at top tier for Japan?

AAM-3, Aim-7M… or both perhaps?

The EJ Kai could definitely get AAM-3 now i see no reason why not to add them especially now that AIM-9Ms are coming and ofc those R-73s as well. Even Python 4s were found in the files but still nothing on AAM-3.

Definitely no reason the EJ Kai can’t get AAM-3’s now that the gates have been thrown wide on IR missiles. And I mean hey, apparently according to that one dev the R-73 is equivalent to an AIM-9X, so going by that logic I don’t see why the AAM-3 can’t come to the EJ Kai. Furthermore, AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod when?

The AAM-3 is a missile that provides guidance based on both IR and UV wavelengths; the AIM-9M has improved IRCCM capability, but its performance should be inferior to those that remain IRH and use UVH together.
(It is considered to be in the AIM-9M-8/9 class in terms of performance.)

Since the UVH mechanism does not currently exist in Warthunder, it may be possible to tentatively implement an AAM-3 that is exactly identical to the AIM-9M in some cases.
I will wait with anticipation for the day when the perfect AAM-3 is implemented in the game :)

We’re Japan, so no.

I hope to see AAM-3 on the EJ Kai soon, this aircraft is starting to fall behind a bit in terms of performance, with F-16Cs and MIGs rocking AIM-9Ms and R-73s i think it is perfectly acceptable to give the EJ KaI it’s AAM-3s

Would be cool to see that MAWS it tested as well. Seems like a ADTW Kai tested it but I think its fine if the regular Kai gets it.

Already in game long long ago.

Targeting pods that the EJ Kai can be equipped with.

TASER POD

Laser guided pod (unknown type)

F-4 EJ Kai is capable of launching air to ground guided weaponry with assists of targeting pods.

It was said in the old forums that these are just to study the characteristics of flares in the air not irst or laser designations.

Actually if you translate it says justs that

I wonder if the AAM-3s will be added to this plane now that the F15J has it

I think they might not yet as that means the EJ Kai would have to get up BR’ed. Maybe in the future with a sub tree to fill the gap?

Yeah no, it’s not equal to an F-16A even with AAM-3s.

AAM-3s aren’t currently performing the greatest either.

It could still be to prevent it from moving up in the future.

The AAM-3 will perform much better when it gets the IR/UV seeker (same IRCCM as the Stinger currently in game) and BTT Steering, which would bring it up to ~56G.

So even if AAM-3 isn’t worth moving the F-4EJ Kai up for it will absolutely once it reaches full capabilities, which I’ll go ahead and assume Gaijin will do once we get equivalent missiles for other nations.

If anything I’d think it’s more likely they’ll add a “(late)” variant at some point with AAM-3 and AIM-7M, as well as possibly MAWS and HMD that I believe were tested on it.

Something about AAM-4

F-4EJ modified 57-8357

Four AAM-3 (Type 90 air-to-air guided missiles) are mounted on both main wing pylons (Sta.2/Sta.8) via launchers. The blue projectile was a captive projectile (a dummy projectile that only activated the seeker), so it was never actually fired. A configuration fully equipped with AAM-4 was also seen on Unit 308 in 2004, but in both cases the tank was equipped with 370 gallon tanks under both wings. The F-4EJ Kai, No. 431, has been deployed to ADTW (IBAPW) since 1984 and is used as a base aircraft for various tests.

Interesting i had this pic just deep in my phones gallery haha…but it coincides with this other pic which mentions AAM-4 on the F-4EJ

I wish i knew the source to these books but at least thats now 2 mentions of the same aircraft potentially testing AAM-4

So, F-4EJ Kai could use AAM-4?
