Mitsubishi F-2

The X-2 and DMU parts are already done, its just the GCAP part thats… complicated.

Even though the thread will only be filled with the most necessary information - otherwise it would end up as state exam lol.

it’s looking like gaijin isn’t gonna absolutely bone the F2 is this actually happening

Has there been any word on if the F-2A can carry ×6 ASM-2 and if the ASM-2 can track and target ground vehicles?

Maybe even an ASM-3?

If it came with ground strike capability equivalent to the Su-30SM and Rafale, I would absolutely lose my head for Gaijin throwing a bone for Japan players 🤯

Given the pylons are on it, it should be able to. No word on ASM-2s tracking though. Same for the ASM-3, and they’re way too long range to be added to game. Actually just fire and forget from the opposite side of an EC map and its not even close to running out of energy.

No idea, but it appears the inner pylon has all the necessary wiring including wiring capabilities for weapons.

It also has the markings on the pylons showing ASM compatibility.

The issue is that maritime strike requires long range flights so if it’s carrying ASMs then the F-2 will always be carrying drop tanks as well. As it stands, its a theoretical loadout with nothing pointing to it not being possible, but at the same time we likely will never see it mounted because there really isn’t a circumstance where it would be mounted.

Also a good reference for the pylons and launchers.

That is very interesting. BRU-47 means it should be able to carry anything the 15E does, assuming avionics compatible.

The issue is that Gaijin screws over Japan when it comes to technical compatibility especially when it comes to guided weapons. For example, we don’t have any direct evidence of the F-15J carrying Mk.84s, but they have them in game because of technical compatibility with the airframe. On the other hand, we know for a fact that the bombing computer was incapable of being removed from the F-15J without compromising other systems, so the F-15J retained compatibility with GBU-8s, but any bug reports about adding the GBU-8 to the F-15J were shut down because “Japan didn’t use it in service”

What are the hardpoints rated for (weight)?

And by any chance does the F-2 have UAI because that opens up many opportunities

I might have the weight figures for the pylons sitting around, but I know that the F-2 is MIL-STD-1760 standard, so it should hypothetically be UAI compatible.

Mil-std-1760 would also open opportunities. I think JASSM-ER is 1760 compatible. The farthest I think they should take it is weapons found on joint US/JP bases on Japanese soil

I mean if we are getting into JASSM-ER territory, might as well go with the Type 12 Kai. Something a little more conservative would be the KEPD-350 offered for the F-2

However realistically this will just open up the F-2 to mounting stuff like Mavericks in-game. Maybe make it the AGM-65F that the JMSDF bought to make it the most realistic scenario.

Well JASSM-ER is known to work with fighters that had 1760 for sure, and is actually in possession of Japan or at least ordered unlike Taurus. Type 12 is cool but since only known launch platform from air is P-1 I think it’s a bit more of a stretch

I believe he’s talking about the new Type 12 currently in development

Yes there is a Type 12 on the P-1 but its different to this new type 12 (japan naming schemes suck lol)

Well maybe… The F-4F doesn’t get triple rack Mavericks because the Luftwaffe never had Lau-88s.

Mavericks would still require an adapter onto the BRU rack to my understanding. But dumb bombs, LGBs and GPS munitions would certainly be valid.

What was so bad about the AGM-xxx system?

Now that you mention it, I thought at least the ASM-2B may be a good viable add, but seeing how the Grom-1s (also a GPS guided cruise missiles, but with 70km range, half of the ASM-2B) were removed, I think it dashes that idea…

Maybe if the IR track for either the ASM-2 or ASM-3 can only detect ground targets at 10-12km like most missiles ingame, it could be viable?

I just want the iconic giant missiles that the F-2A carries 😭

I’m praying the ARH missile is a mod and not another 400k RP vehicle to grind

I think they’ll implement it as a researchable module and not an entirely new vehicle
