Yeah, I doubt it will perform badly. Especially when considering the WT “Maneuver Mode” that it would probably get, the fact that the airframe is very durable since it’s meant to perform high G loading even with payload and that there’s still a (very slight) possibility they model DY and ME modes.
It wouldn’t really be meta since it’s still rather slow, but it would find its niche.
But at the same time I did try the user mission as well again and that video is a modified flight model (might also just be set to arcade). That doesn’t mean the F-2 isn’t already very agile in the user mission, but it doesn’t defy physics the way it did in the deep fried fake leak video.

My guess for its play style is staying between medium to low altitude since your lower speed (tho probably not as low as a hornet) means you wouldn’t want to contest high speed bvr fighters.
Staying near allied groups and just picking off others doing more of a rat playstyle and support.

I wonder, how do we think the J/AAQ-2 will come to game? It’s FLIR functionality is kinda between the TGPs and IRSTs we have in game. It’s capable of tracking both air and ground targets, but lacks a laser designator and potentially some other TGP functions. However if it came as a FLIR it wouldn’t be simultaneously usable with the J/APG-2, which it should be (an issue multiple IRSTs in game already have, but especially prominent on the F-2 given how the AAM-4 should work.)
In game internally IRSTs are technically a part of the radar, just in a different range band, while TGPs are separate modules which work independently of them.

- Will come as a TGP

It looks like I overestimated hype “potential” of F-2. At least as Gaijin see it. If leaks are true, Gaijin decided to not only add F-2 in a ship update with Yamato and Bismarck (much-much more famous vehicles in in the public consciousness), but it also “pairs” with German hornet, so we probably won’t see a lot of shots with F-2 in a trailer. It’s basically a side update for air. According to leaks, there is no premium or early versions of F-2 as well. Still good it comes

They can’t delay and hype up one of the worlds most famous aircraft, then put it off as nothing or a sidenote. They didn’t do that to the Rafale, they didn’t do it for the J-10, and those are what I’d call the closest examples for what F-2 is like.
Not too bad still, considering F-2 is very much anti ship focused. If anything this puts it ahead of any other aircraft leaked so far in terms of how well it fits the general update theme.
Which is an aircraft we got last update, operated by a landlocked country. Not exactly competition.
Now obviously Gaijin can still mess it up and not properly feature F-2 (they did anticlimacticly hint at it as just “a plane for japan”), but after over two years of telling us to wait longer and hyping it up as “too modern” and “too powerful” against some seriously capable opponents in this time, there is at least a certain expectation that they will have to match.

It looks like this is exactly what they are doing now. Well, we didn’t see teaser yet, so maybe F-2 gonna be a star, but accounting how many new FAMOUS ships they plan to add, new mechanics, like multi vehicles, or fuel damping, I can’t see a lot of time for F-2.
It is, but it’s modern antiship plane. Nobody will ever pair F-2 with Yamato. It’s impossible in reality, it’s impossible in the game. There is no reason to promote F-2 as anti ship plane, especially if Gaijin decided to not add ASM in the game.
Yes! It’s like “Here’s new German hornet. We already have it in the game. Here’s F-2, new plane. But look at all those new SHIPS! Yamato, Bismarck, Iowa! Multi vehicle mechanics! Fuel dumping! (of course shown on F-111/F-14)”.
They already fucked up F-2 with adding rafale and typhoon before F-2. It looks like, they want to fuck up it again
