JASDF did say the F-2 computing power is not enough when they introduce LJDAM.
So it seems like it has already been upgraded in that regard?
At least for the ATDW aircraft.
There are constantly a budget named “F-2 performance improve” so I believe some of the F-2 in service are having this upgrade.
I wont complain
What does this jet bring to the table for Japan ideally?
Better CAS options (hopefully) and AESA.
some of the best looking camos ever created
Will it not feature a FM upgrade over current options or will it just not be that remarkable compared to current top tier roster

Depends. I am still hoping for the AAM-4B. Might sound crazy, but the range increase isn’t really ‘‘mechanical’’ in that it would have an increase fuel load, it just has optimised lofting and such - increase in the range is only apparent at high altitudes. Where it does make a difference is increased countermeasure resistance and basically immunity to ground clutter. If Gaijin gave the F-2 the AAM-4B, it wouldn’t be a sidegrade to the F-15JM anymore, since the F-2 can only carry 4x ARH missiles afaik, but it would be an upgrade since the missile would be much harder to defeat. This is imo the way - increased chaff, notching and ground clutter resistance.
How will it compare to current F-16 FM?
Expect slightly better F-16 so it should be close but EFT and Rafale would slightly edge it out. There is one thing different and that is it should get the AoA limiter option so can do things the F-16 can’t
Uhh, turns harder, bleeds more or less speed depending on the situation (larger wings but pulls less aoa), slower. In a 1v1 it could probably edge out a block 10 for average pilots, but a proper duelist would likely do better in the F-16.
That being said, it lacks HMD, so honestly even a block 50 can beat it in a 1v1.
Also, no, it does not get an AoA override, it gets a G-limit override. The F-2 handles AoA even worse then F-16s normally do. Literally every plane above 12.3 should pull more AoA then it.
In a 1 vs 1 that won’t matter as it doesnt have thrust vectoring missiles anyway. You can still get radar on with vertical ACM as well. HMD is more for multiple targets or close range “BVR” battles to not leave notch angle too much.
I think the only thing it would be worse is direct T/W but F-16C beats A in that yet F-16A wins against C so really the only thing an F-16 will beat the F-2 in should be top speed which AFAIK doesn’t matter in duels?
The last time we talked about this, IIRC the computer can pull more AoA with override
And this isn’t in game yet?
There’s no direct evidence of one but Gaijin could add it anyway. We just don’t know what they will do
Even if it pulls more its still a clamped value. All planes that have AoA overrides in game are ones which can completely override pitch authority using them. Even in over-G the FBW system om the F-2 still translates your pitch input and limits it from exceeding its values (although in over-g they may be higher then normal).
Even when the flight sensors fail and the F-2 reverts to degraded flight logic it still uses a computer to control them, theres just no escaping the computer on it.
The +3 G itself is as you say, going to translate to more instantaneous pull which would be more than F-16C as they are limited IIRC with no override at all.
Also F-15s should not have any override IRL according to devs but they do in game so they could be removed or more aircraft could get them
The only way I see an F-2 worse than F-16 is if they’re both at max fuel since F-2 carries more and would be at a disadvantage (and also considering carrying no missiles)
IRL F-15s use an analog input, so it would be more like they should only have AoA override permenantly enabled lmao.
Nah i hate the AoA override on the F-15s in game rn, its kinda bugged and has some snap roll issues full real doesnt.
Yea tbf, I don’t ever use em as I don’t ever see the need lol. Anything I need it for already would outclass me anyway and using it on flankers is just asking for an r-73
