There’s also a bit more on it, like a depiction of what it would display, as well as some closer photos of the HMD that could be used to make a unique pilot model if Gaijin want to go that far.
As a bonus, here's a photo of the prototyped nosecone as well, sadly in rather low quality
I feel like having renders of multiple different DMU designs might be confusing to a 3D modeler that is paid by Gaijin to make a model of the 26DMU.
So to make it easier here’s compiled images specifically of 26DMU that might help in depicting it accurately in game:
Promotional video of the 26DMU. This one seems to use a simplified version of the 26DMU design. Most notable differences are the missing IR/EO sensor in front of the cockpit and the elongated engine nozzles.
Though this still shows some interesting aspects, such as panel lines for the landing gear doors as well as a blue bicolor camouflage similar to what can be seen on the F-2.
Model of the 26DMU shown in a grey color scheme. This is likely still the same blue scheme just without color, but could be a nice potentially unlockable / GE camouflage.
The most detailed renders of the 26DMU internals showing both a top and bottom angled view of how it would be set up. This might be helpful for creating internal modules.
Render that shows the placement of the electric actuators for the control surfaces, as well as a basic depiction of the landing gear.
One of the intake ducts overlayed over the main external 26DMU render. This might help aligning internal components and modelling the intakes a bit better.
Render of the aircraft that more clearly shows the internal components without structural parts obscuring the view.
While there is a version with a top-down view, it depicts a slightly older version of the design with different SRAAM weapons bay and landing gear placement. However it can still be useful to help position internal modules that were unaffected by those changes.
Render that shows the structural internal design, as well as highlighting the specific prototyped fuselage section. This one also gives exact measurements for the 26DMU
Render of the Structural design of the nose section up to the intakes.
Scale model of the 26DMU. This is likely realated to the promotional video, being most similar to that slightly simplified version of the design. It is once again shown in the blue camouflage.
Internal Components
Main internal weapons bay, which remained unchanged between the 25DMU and 26DMU designs. Especially the video might be useful to animate the opening and closing, while the photo can simply function as reference to make the model.
-1 absolutely zero reason for an unfinished plane, especially a supposed Gen 5 to ever be introduced since even the nearly 30 year old F-22 has completely classified specifications, this thing would be the worst case of “guesstimate” far surpassing any current MBT armor in-game, it can’t even carry an ARH missile since JNAAM was never finished…
I mean we can just wai until some details are revealed, no one is asking for it this year, besides we are probably gonna get worse vehicles than we have now in terms of available knowledge via North Korea
I really dont think it would be that innacurate relative to other modern stealth fighters.
Like, we know hard performance figures for most components on it, moreso even then we do for most “actual” 5th gens. Stuff like exact outlines given for ESM and radar specifications, which we dont even have for the likes of the F-35.
The main thing we do not know would specifically be the aerodynamics, basically everything else is covered in the resesrch papers. But the aerodynamics of it are very hush hush. However 1. We do know it was derived from the shinshin, which did fly and can be used as a basis. And 2. Aerodynamic modeling of wings and such is actually fairly predictable, the big issue would be body lift/vortex lift. However again, thats something we have to guess for other 5th gens anyways.
I dunno, i never heard about it being tested, ares might know something I dont, or he could be reffering to the other ramjet AAM-4 project, which was tested.
Sad it was never finished but it’s enough to add under Gaijin’s rules. Though it would be a stand alone aircraft so you won’t get anything after it. It’s nice we won’t just have an import for the top tier of Japan
Mmm, you know, im considering changing the name of the thread / suggestion. Cause while the model used as a reference for this is the 26DMU, thats not really the project name. And imo it being named after the actual project would put the suggestion in better faith for a lot of people, rather than naming it after a design configuration mockup of the project.
So, what do we think its name should be?
Mitsubishi 26DMU
i³ Prototype
F-X Preliminary Prototype
F-X 26DMU Study
0voters
Yes ik calling it i³ isnt technically correct, but they are very closely related in research and development, so…
Honestly I feel like there isn’t an ideal solution at all.
Just going for 26DMU is a bit weird because the entire DMU series was only design mockups for the F-X aircraft that’s suggested.
That is just about the equivalent of making a KF-21 suggestion named C-109. It’s technically the right design, but not really the name of the final aircraft.
KF-21 designs
But it also can’t be named (X)F-3 because that would overlap with the future GCAP, and just “F-X” is too vague because it’s used for other projects as well, again including GCAP.
I usually call it “5th gen F-X” to avoid the confusion with 6th gen F-X / GCAP, but that just doesn’t sound good for a name in game.
So I think something like “F-X (26DMU)” would be the best compromise. It’s the F-X fighter based on the 26DMU design.
to bad they never cooked up a theoretical load out for the X-2 as its a test bed unless there is something deep in the Japanese military concerning it.
Technically there is one, but it was only a wind tunnel test. This leaves no space for the weapons bay to actually be there or weapons to be properly integrated.
The X-2 was really more of a general testbed for the 5th gen project than a prototype for an armed plane itself
if we can find one bent chunk of metal destined for this plane there can be a post. I would have believed they would have gone like the Korean plane and copy its philosophy of low visibility and dump and run with the missiles. Cheap and easy no door.
dumb question did they ever do any mock battles with the X-2? No weapons needed.
But thanks the strange stealth fighter version might be interesting as a award in a event suggestion I’m cooking up.
