Enjoyed so many premiums and Tech tree tiers on Xbox World of Tanks, but sadly their PC version lacks PvE, so I was excited when my matches of War Thunder were only against bots at first.
Admittedly, I just had a surprisingly successful PvP match by being a slippery little bastard, distracting the enemy team while holding down an objective, and somehow both getting a satisfying kill but also surviving to the end (in an Italian tank no less).
But… my idea of relaxing is when brain can just play a game without thinking what the player I’m about to one-shot kill is going to experience.
I wouldn’t put money into the game unless there was, say, a box you could check to only que with people against bots. Sounds simple? Just import the fun bot A.I. you already have from Crossout Gaijin!
I usually just go into custom battles and enable bots there if I want a chill game. I don’t necessarily agree with you because you can do that with custom battles, but I do see where you’re coming from.
Try props, you spend 50-80% of the match climbing and can just watch youtube or whatever and turn off your brain.
If you are just messing around in ground its not gonna be a whole lot of fun, even just listening to music and not paying full attention is gonna get you slammed a ton. I think i died like instantly 5 matches in a row now listening to music and not checking flanks like a spastic spading the 2s6. Cant even sit comfy in the spawn without getting killed in less than 2 minutes half the time if I’m not behind something.
Yeah I did enjoy the one custom battle I did. Definitely means that game’s not for me if you can only unlock more content through PvP and Youtubers keep saying how much of a grind it can be even if we ONLY do that. But thanks much for the advice.
Love World of Warships because of the friendly atmosphere when playing its normal multiplayer matches in Co-op mode.
Any thoughts of the Ground assault mode? Is there a way I’m missing to aim our gun in binoculars mode btw?
Yeah that was a special mix of boredom, pain, and squandered potential (admittedly just trying the mode a couple times in starter tier, but I see why everyone says its a joke compared to what it could so easily be). Just imagine if it got a re-balance to make it fun. After playing Crossout for years I feel whatever team did that game is very well versed in balanced waves of enemies (and MAP SIZE).
Custom battles is a possibility…i used it a lot to learn stuff when i was green…and was actually lots of fun…
PROBLEM - No rewards
I would love a PVE mode with historical matches vs AI…but i am guessing this would be a different game…ideally it would also have reasonable rewards…we can always hope…
Well thanks to both of you for recommending custom, I’ll definitely play it more and see what fun I can get into with the options! Might do some PvP until I get the Italian AS 42/47 “tank”. Although the main draw of that is sharing the absurdity of it with allies.
(BTW, is there anything else among the nations’ tech trees that’s an even closer equivalent to the Chad army’s fearsome MBT, the Toyota Hilux?)
I would love an Armored Warfare Style PVE mode where you can que up with randoms or a 5 person (4 person in the case of war thunder) squad and chase objectives around the map. Gaijin already has a basic dynamic objective system but it’s been in disuse for as long as I can remember, 10+ years maybe.
War Thunder’s presentation and UI is Utilitarian to the point of being agricultural. We are playing the efficient and robust tractor equivalent of vehicle combat games. I think to make the PVE systems fun and engaging, they’re need to invest considerable time and effort into developing stable and reliable scripted objectives. Write basic scripts for missions with some measure of voice acting for flavour and context.
I would absolutely by the singleplayer/coop version of War Thunder though, if Gaijin hired a development studio to take the vehicles and physics and then design compelling game out of it, that would be cool. Even if it was just a first/third person version of Call to Arms or Men of War.
That said I feel your pain but so long as there are going to be sweaties trying to grind at any BR, war thunder will not be a relaxing game.
You have some great quotable turns-of-phrase there. Good thoughts too - perhaps we’ll see some game fill that niche in the next few years. Also your point about scripted objectives was EXACTLY what I heard a youtuber today thinking could save “the endgame gameplay loop from causing burnout.”
I haven’t gotten to sweaty tier yet, lol, wish me luck if I’m still playing. Though I think it’s an interesting mechanic being able to become a plane mid-match in a tank game.
lol, maybe so. Maybe data shows people spend more money when actively competing rather than just addicted to gameplay. Or maybe they’re low on players.
I enjoyed Crossout so much over the years on my main account that I was surprised that I don’t see anymore solid PvE or players-versus-bots modes among their newer games.
Also wow, the launcher just politely said Gaijin put this account on ice O _O Waht?
You can’t necessarily fire the main gun, but, if you go to shoot your MGs or fire you’re main armament while in bino view, it will align your vertical and horizontal drive to where you are pointing. Super useful for H-down tactics
