Today, I’m presenting a modernized version of the Mirage 2000B: the Mirage 2000B S4.
The Mirage 2000B is the two-seat version of the Mirage 2000C and plays a crucial role in the training of French fighter pilots. Its tandem cockpit allows an instructor to directly accompany the student during all phases of training: familiarization with the aircraft, safety procedures, tactical maneuvers, radar operation, simulated air combat, in-flight refueling, and the use of weapon systems. Although primarily used as an advanced training aircraft, the Mirage 2000B retains operational capabilities close to those of the Mirage 2000C, enabling it to participate in real-world missions if the situation demands it.
Upon entering service in the early 1980s, the Mirage 2000B was delivered to the S3 standard, equipped with the RDM radar and largely analog avionics inherited from the earlier generations of the Mirage 2000. This radar, versatile but limited in range and resistance to jamming, was progressively replaced from the mid-1980s onward by the much more capable RDI radar. This transition marked the move to the S4 standard, which profoundly transformed the capabilities of the Mirage 2000B. The new radar and weapons system now allowed the use of the Super 530D missile, a much more powerful weapon with a greater range than the Super 530F, revolutionizing the Mirage 2000B’s interception capability. The aircraft also received improvements to its navigation systems, electronic countermeasures environment, and cockpit ergonomics, in order to better reflect the capabilities of the modernized Mirage 2000C with which it operated in close collaboration.
Thanks to this modernization, the Mirage 2000B S4 offers pilots in training a much more realistic transition to high-performance interception missions. It is used in various squadrons of the French Air Force, particularly those responsible for operational transformation, where it prepares young pilots in air combat techniques, the use of radar in real-world situations, and long-range engagements. Even though its operational use remains more limited than that of the single-seat versions, the Mirage 2000B is occasionally deployed in air defense postures, complementing front-line aircraft. With the constant evolution of aeronautical technologies, the Mirage 2000B S4 eventually gives way to the Mirage 2000B S5, an even more modernized version with completely redesigned avionics, improved communication capabilities, and better compatibility with new weapon systems and NATO standards. This modernization will set a new pace in the career of the Mirage 2000B, gradually removing the S4 standard aircraft from service.

Propulsion:
The Mirage 2000B is powered by the SNECMA M53-5 engine. This engine allow the aircraft to reach Mach 2.2 and give it a maximum altitude of 18000 m

The internal equipment of the Mirage 2000B S4 is the same as that found on the C variant of the plane

The radar used is therefore the RDI radar found on the Mirage 2000C S4 and S5 in game.
Weapons
Regarding its armament, the Mirage 2000B S4 has virtually the same payload capacity as its single-seat counterpart, with one major exception: its cannon. The addition of the second seat in the cockpit necessitated the removal of the cannon to make room for the pilot’s seat (a modification common to other French aircraft such as the Mirage F1 and Mirage III).
