I was getting missiles by MIg-29 head-on by R-60M , sim being sim with out AB while flaring and pre flaring.
happened to me 4 times in a row , losing my mind .
Meanwhile Magic-II still have none.
Magic 2 has the 2nd or 3rd best flare resist currently of the “non-IRCCM” small missiles.
Well any of mine just goes fo flares whatever the firing situation,… and i’ve seen even AIM-9B resisting to flares much more than magic’s… (my experience POV)
You gotta shoot them from <1.5km and they are almost never flared even if they shut A/B off, basically like an AIM9L, just with an ultra gimped range because it’s french and we know how the snail feels about snail eaters
“Whatever the situation” → literally
even when i shot them at 1.2 // 1km //0.8km those missiles got flared off,… so please add more of your insight,…(and under those ranges the Magic-2 is unable to follow, despite IRL being 0.5km fairly capable)
I tried anything, and for it works better at long ranges against unaware opponents(without being flare resistant).
But those are still way more efficient than Super 530D,… completely useless missile - when you have solid radar lock, it blows up for no reason.
In short French missiles are in no way as capable of counterparts.
AIM-9L literally are better in anything, while US documents clearly stated Magic-II to have several edges over the AIM-9L)
Yep, but it is what it is, if whales preferred the mirage over the F14 or F16 then we’d have MICA today.
530D and Magic are way more situational than US missiles. They only work well if you use them in super specific scenarios. (and even in ideal scenarios, they’re inferior to US missiles)
- Only use Magic 2 if you’re below <=1.5km and can see down the pipe of a jet, ideally afterburning. Almost never gets flared. (works for 9L too but at much longer range). You’re probably shooting targets that are 45 degrees aspect or more, be patient and wait til you have 0 degree aspect.
- Only use 530D if you’re <10km with a pure head on target ideally above you. Unless they immediately notch or fire a Sparrow or R27ER it should work. 530D can also hit cold targets but only below <3km, pay attention to the lock strength indicator when the seeker is on, use TRK PD for cold targets, if your radar hooks chaffs just hold lock on the chaff, the missile will still see the red shifted jet echo from sidelobes and track that. Don’t bother shooting if you don’t have a full strength lock (Aim7’s longer self destruct means you can lose lock much longer, way more forgiving and versatile in general aka handheld af). Honestly just forget about >15km shots with the 530D, prefer 3-15km depending on relative velocity
Well, i tried any type of situation from 0 to 180° in Magic-II, and both head-on/cold out of 30° for S.530D, also leading the missile just a little bit to have best reflection of target radar signature.
S.530D today, i won’t use them anymore, they’re useless in comparison to any other Fox-1 at that BR have less range and are slower than most missiles, so it’s basically useless against those R-27/AIM-7
I largely prefer to go defensive immediately than hoping for my S.530D to connect when i know the AIM-7/R-27 is certain to connect onto me.
And for Magic-II, unless target is slow, or distracted,… other than that, i just goes for guns as it is 100% sure to hit when familiarized with those.
Tbf, the flare resistance of R-60M would significantly increase if you launch it at the very top speed. I found this by launching it from 1,1-1,4km rear aspect with my MiG-29 at the top speed of 1450kmh+ at launch.
The only bad thing about French Missile is its fuze delay tbh. 1,8s for Magic II, and 2,2s for S530D is terrible for close quarter shooting, it will simply just pass by if your missile hasn’t reach it’s time to explode.
While other missile has much shorter fuze delay. It is indeed French Missile are very situational.
The delay on the Magic 2 has stopped me from getting soooo many kills.
Is there any reliable source on the Magic 2 warhead fuse delay because honestly two whole seconds of fuze delay for a missile that is made for interception seem unreal moreover the missile is capable of being launched at distances of less than .5km which means it’s warhead must have quite a short fuze delay as otherwise such a short launch distance would bne clearly unachievable.
I’m also noticed that R-60M are more flare resistant. Suprice me few times so far
With the new(new-ish) changes to points of interest being stored in memory you can now drop LGBs from over 20km.
If you set a point of interest and then turn on the laser it will laze past the 20km limit of the targeting pod.
I have noticed that if you try to view the point of interest from outside 20km, past the view distance of targeting pods, that it will reset the PoI.
In test flight I have hit targets from 30km with the following method.
- Mark the target with a PoI
- Fly to desired distance and altitude without entering the the targeting pod.
- Fly towards target and when pod has direct line of sight of PoI, engage laser.
- Release bomb
Bit of a bypass of the view distance limitations currently in place. Probably not practical for GRB
And this thread is a very good example of the problems that gaijin avoids instead of confronting as of late.
non sense
Spoiler
I think USSR needs Egypt Abrams, because their MBTs are niche and require methodical gameplay.
they are doing this cause Russia and China don’t have any future top tier , with these kind of mindset ,they are paving the way for Russian and Chinese future
i can’t figure out if you’re joking or serious and if you’re serious i’m gonna end me because this is the most BS shit i’ve ever read
Pretty sure the comment he screenshoted was satire to highlight Gaijin’s absurd logic about adding the T-90 to Britain.
But this isn’t really the topic for that.
This is all about that Danger Dorrito!
Danger Dorito more like Extinction Endangered Dorito yes…
For sure:
Mirage 2000-5F shouldn’t been added in current states, it makes no senses.
Mirage 2000C would have been enough IF Magic-II and S.530D were good/ok → spoiler alert their are not.
And now adding Super Étendard feels uncanny and late because of Mirages 2000 being added already,…
