Wikipedia (and many other sources) actually confuse two completely different missiles: the AS-37 Martel and the ARMAT. The latter is an evolution of the former (better seeker, engines, etc.) and was sold exclusively for export. However, France operated a hybrid version of the AS-37 Martel with elements of the ARMAT, and this is the version we have in the game.
Regarding the carrier aircraft, the implementation of the hybrid version in the game is quite accurate (not sure for the Mirage 4000 since the plane never entered service). As for other aircraft, the Jaguars and Mirage III Es operated the AS-37 Martel for several decades, carrying a single missile in a central pylon on both aircraft. For the Mirage F1 it’s complicated, the French versions never operated it (one source indicates that the F1 CR, not the CT, could have used it but it is at best a secondary source), however the Mirage F1 EQ sold to Iraq are capable of firing the missile, it is a modification specific to this model.
While i was browsing I’ve stumbled across to the catwerfers mirage 4k video where he bashed the mirage’s flight performance. Are there any truth to this? maybe it is little too stiff above supersonic speeds but it feels fine for me. were there any changes in last year or two?
Mirage “feels” fine, as you say, but it’s still outperformed by the F16, gripen, J10, F15… by quite a big margin.
You still have your chances against su27s as the flares are very good (against r73) and you can out energy most non dog fighter pro players.
The mirage 4000 is a bit of the opposite. Loses to much speed/does’t hold energy well enough so if you are not careful you can also get out energized by many aircrafts. Unless you are below 10 minutes of fuel. Then it becomes more balanced
It retains the classical pre-nerfed M2K FM but doesn’t carry a necessary upgrade. Instead, it’s basically a wider M2K rather than indeed an M2K with bigger power too.
I think the drag was too high, it should be lower since the aircraft were also made with special component that makes it lighter.
M2K was great besides the FM Nerf because it was one of the aircraft that have lightest drag for its BR.
At low fuel it is much better than the old M2K ever was actually, and had substantially worse supersonic performances (such as the lower top speed, worse acceleration, etc…). I personally much preferred the old M2K-5F which, despite lower missile count (4 magic 2, 2 r530), had a much better overall kit with the MAW and radar
The FM is excellent, he must not be used to dosing the turn rate with the keyboard as opposed to just pointing the mouse at it. The main issue with the m4000 has always been the combination of a radar with only PD headon and the matra 530D missile, which is not necessarily bad but sub par when the opposition has full fledged pd radars and missiles like the aim-120A, r-77, r-27er, phoenix, fakour, etc which forces the plane into a “scanvenger” playstyle where it has to sneak in close range and either get a kill with the many magic 2’s at it’s disposal or manages a snap up 530d shot against someone looking elsewhere.
After recent events, I doubt that is the case. It has yet again been taken out back and shot for persisting through the last several attempts to kill it.
