Ye, this update is definitely refreshing for French Air
Here some clip of Magic 2 buff: Keep in mind, on these clip with the current (air superiority update) setting missile launch, the missile would NEVER hit, (because pulling too late). On dev-server, the magic 2 is pure buff.

(1st: It would never hit at those angle in Live server. On live i would need to wait before launch and pull+ lead and help the missile. In this case on Dev, i have more margin to launch this missile, don’t need to lead and help the missile)

(2nd: Not optimize limit boresight rear shot on fast moving aircraft already far away from me: Hit.
This a typical exemple which the missile would never Hit this on live server. On live, the missile would already burn all its fuel and would chase hopelessly the aircraft, would never hit in this case.

(3rd: Look at this angle shoot, but most importantly how close is the target. A buffed magic 2 FINALLY is able to hit a fast maneuvring aircraft at 350 to 450 meter. Guys, it was literaly IMPOSSIBLE to hit this in live server.)

(4th: Typical case, where in live the missile would pull way too late to hit the aircraft, and where you will need to pull more and be more align to the target before shooting. Not the case anymore. You can look how the missile is leading off-rail, catching the su-27.

(5th: Guys. A magic 2 hitting a target at 3km… From Rear. Yes you hear well. 3km, from rear.)

So a much welcome update needed for magic 2. btw i had no problem to lock on target outside of 5 km range. The max lock range i had with Magic 2 was 12 km. But remember it is a dev-server, could be a bug, not intended or be nerfed, not finals etc etc.

With this, now we have the S530D which become finally reliable. Not perfect, but reliable and usable again. If you remember my previous post (month or weeks ago) on these clips it would be “50/50 shoot and pray”. Look at this:

Sound stupid right? Well yes, on live server, there was a chance this missile would not hit this easy target. (the missile would probably relock on an ennemy missile instead of staying on target.

TLDR: Things to note this update:

  • TACVIEW in War Thunder, easily one of the best feature added this update. Will help to understand why some things is not working (like missile), tracking some issues. And will be even easier to find a cheater.

  • Magic 2 buff is very good, and can only be better since it still lack of its IRCCM level of aim-9M (and 50g, but not gonna lie, based replay with the TACVIEW i saw the missile hitting 50g, could be a bug, or the Gaijin “version” of 50g) lock range buffed, drag seems even more reduced too.

  • S530D Reliable again, about time.

  • 2 stage - multi stage afterburner is now indicate ( Wep indication going to 102 to 110%), a welcome addition, for air RB and SIM.

  • Addition of Alpha-jet which means, the next step of modern aircraft for France is either a new modern version of Mirage 2000 D or Rafale series. Gaijin can still stop addition of more modern of aircraft, or add less know french aircraft (like fouga Cm-170, or other VG30 series/D.520 series)

  • The WIP fox 3, already show MICA EM is already strong. Which mean Mirage 2000 will still be Meta, when the fox 3 will be officially introduce. (On my part, only the RDY radar was a problem on live, dev, and fox-3 test. I still hope for an RDY update.)

  • Outside S530D reliability, the new ACM automatic radar is nice addition, still buggy with HMD trouble to lock at close range (with the HMD i prefer to have a manual mode)

  • Mirage 2000-5F still miss its TWS all-aspect, hope it will updated at least when the fox 3 officialy come
    no specific radar update for the RDY, still “easy” to break the look.

Gonna drop my two cents
Magic 2 feels really satisfying on dev server. Rear aspect kill up to 2km (usually how I fire it) is 100% guaranteed now. The missile starts the tracking basically off the rail.

Didn’t have chance to try 530D though

I’m sorry but can you for once be happy with changes to the missiles?
Magic 2 received some significant performance boosts, 530D is working much better and it still isn’t good enough for you?

Also why should France Players be limited when everyone else use best Missile performances?
Huh? Where is the balance in that?

Where is the balance in having less missile, with limited capacity, when others use unlimited missiles with half or double the number of possible launch?

Why should i be grateful to be used as feeding pawn?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, you have no say over his opinions. I’m also dissatisfied that primary sources were uncovered and the missile is only being incrementally improved for balance reasons. Fix it 100% or not at all.

Anyone has any idea of the date of release for the ARH ?

2nd major update in summer 2024

I’ll be trying to make a report on the MICA EM missile wobbling as well as doing backflips while in flight, but if anyone wants to include some videos for me, that would be appreciated.

shame the mirage 2000-5F still didn’t get its maws while they release new planes with it (the SU 25 SM3)

Hard for me to recreate this situation sadly. As you can’t test in custom battle (only solo custom mission)+ and with furball match which are fox 3 test. Hard to have this specific behavior of the missile

I think if we can recreate this same situation, not side to side but one on top the second below, pretty close to each other to force the mica to do a backflip. it will give the same result. (but you will not have the “loft” sequence)

It’s bug reported, but the MAWS is more complex than what’s on the Su-25/GR.7/F-111, hence why it hasn’t came yet.

In other instances we found that it can reach 45g quickly and sustain it momentarily in specific conditions

Can confirm this after my own testing, the Magic II is able to exceed its 35G limit by far (though these are short spikes, but it still pulls like hell haha).
It pulled over 40G a few times for very short time, on the first screenshot, and also managed to hit the target; the other missile missed but tried to pull hard.

Might also just be a Tacview things that needs some refinement
