Definitely a cool experience, I remember standing on the deck and thinking, oh man thats a loooong way down. I also remember that the ship was really hot in some areas, especially the vehicle bay, that thing was an oven my god.
Quick question: does anyone have a source regarding the use of CASCAD Mk1 and CASCAD Mk2 cluster bombs on the Mirage 2000 ?
I’m currently doing some research to suggest them, but there’s very little information on the web, and almost none of it mentions actual use. The only data I have is a possible use of CASCAD Mk1 by an Indian Mirage 2000H, which reportedly dropped them during testing, but that’s it.
not for france, as we have stopped using Cluster bombs after the BLG-66 Belouga (it should be possilbe on C variants and early D’s - to get BLG-66, but not after that, as France signed a treaty against such weapons)
Cascad was developped in the meantime, and never put into service, if i recall.
The CASCAD bombs would have been developed at roughly the same time as the Belouga but would not have entered service (they are still cited as weapons that France possesses by the HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH so I do not know to what extent they were tested and produced)
HRW (as an NGO) often tends to not update ancient weaponnary, mostly because they have no right to search into inventory of all armies, but also because it’s easier to let those there.
it only was tested, never massively produced.
Forever relegated to the “forwarded as a suggestion” from the accepted bug report originally. When the Tornado BOL pods got their ~1200 chaff there was a buzz that the M4K would be next, but it doesn’t look like the Sycomor pods will get the same treatment anytime soon. Link to M4K bug report.
