We could.^^
But that usually resolves in bs.
So umm, I just tried a rafale joust.
MICA is absolute bullshit.
There’s 0 counterplay to a rafale who knows how to joust.
It’s actually so stupid.
MICA mirage is definitely just as cancer to face at 14.0 as the rafale would be at 14.7
Except the mirage also has magic 2s which make calculating how many Fox-3s it has even harder.
I hate this
so
so much
I don’t know about RB, as I don’t really play it, but in Sim, Mica has fallen off, in favor of R-77.
Mica suffers from short burn time and being thrust vectoring, loses most of its pull after engine flames out. While R-77 will continue to pull thanks to it’s grid fins. The 120 and PiLi-12 are no slouches either. To add insult to injury, the MICA, since last patch, has acquired the R73’s tendency to transition in to fidget spinner at the slightest provocation from Netanyahu.
Sure, MICA can be still yeeted from rail in memory mode, that is plus no doubt, but there is now risk of spinning and burn out of engine before it gets its job done. With the R77 preforming close to the old MICA, Su-27SM and Mig-29K (and that other mig) just enjoy better overall package for Sim, and are 13.7 to boot.
As for the airframe, In terms of avionics, lack of IRST and good radar puts the Mirage 5F at disadvantage, its has MAWS that gives you a bit of peace of mind and HMD, but at 13.7-14.0, almost anything has HMD save for few outliers, like F2. However, F2 has busted FM, that thing clowns on anything not eurocanard… and has AESA too. And as far as FM goes, it is a decent radius fighter in right hands, but nothing special to write home about. At 12.3-12.7 C4/5’s FM can carry the day, at 14.0 5F is power-crept by all the recent additions.
5F is mostly one trick pony, enabled by HMD + MICA + high AOA-pull combination, and demands allot from the pilot to fully unlock its true potential. After the recent Fox3 changes, that same competent pilot will find same qualities of old MICA + HMD + AOA packaged in better airframes, and at 0.3 BR lower.
huh?
Please don’t mean base R-77
Either way this topic is centered around RB, not sim
Yes, the garden variety R-77, found as low as 13.3 in Sim, preforms close enough to old MICA, that you can do MICA things with it while missile jousting. It is also more reliable with no risk of spinning and will continue to pull after engine burns out. Oh, and cherry on top, its better at BVR and has bigger warhead (for splashing them multipathers on Denmark). Only thing that MICA has over R-77 is it can be launched in mem mode.
Not really since you still have launch limits
Seeker
MICA is the only “modern” Fox-3 in-game with a unique seeker.
It loses to MICA even until 15km
Anything after that will only kill brainless droids so I don’t count it as really relevant
While I agree with the radar complaints, your statements about the MICA vs R-77 I disagree with
I can ask my sim-playing buddies for more information on this if you want
It does however, lack the enhanced seeker that makes the Mica what it is to begin with. Not to mention new Mica is also buffed.
So no. Buffed R-77 still isn’t as good as old mica. And now new mica still puts R-77s in the water.
I think I mentioned the mem mode launch, no?
However, this is pointless arguing, as the unique seekers does not help it against people who have mastered notching techniques. And for the BVR, their pure straight line kinematic performance is close but the ability to pull after engine cutoff is better on r-77, so I guess the jury is out what one prefers. A missile that is 13.3 and does MICA things better/as well or close enough… or MICA at 14.0 bolted to old 5F airframe.
It still leaves less room for error compared to every other arh missile in game, which is a quality on its own. There’s a reason it has been and still considered the best ARH missile.
even when it spins out of control like R-73?
Unlikely to happen unless you’re literally stalling out, which is a pilot issue to begin with. Besides, why are we stalling ourselves to fire MICAs when it is the hardest pulling ARH + no launch limits?
there is literally no downside to having better seeker than other ARHs, and sure, it doesnt help agaisnt people in notch - but other ARH missiles dont work either. Where unique seeker does work however is literally any other scenario.
I think you are missing the point here, we are comparing a 13.3 missile that is now going toe to toe with best France has to offer.
So, is the 5F 14.0 material when you are comparing it to monsters sitting at 13.7?
It doesn’t?
the R-77 has
- Launch limits
- Less close range accel
- Less turn
- Worse seeker
That’s not “toe to toe”
It could be worth noting that two or maybe even three of those 13.3 planes should be 13.7, not 13.3
MiG-29N and SMT should really stay at 13.3
by global stats it does better at 14.0 than 14.0 hornets, F-15E and it does perform better than 13.7 Su-27SM, the plane with supposedly better missiles.
MICA still outperforms R-77 in few areas.
ok, be like that :)
I don’t mind letting France suffer for a bit ^^
Idk what’s the suffer part? I flew both the Taiwanese and French mirages and did perfectly fine with them?
And like Beesburger said, it’s also the best performing 14.0 statwise. How is that indicative that France is suffering?
Yeah, because its in RB, where good avionics means less.
If you look at my OG post about 5F, I wrote it from Sim perspective.
Many good RB planes fall off the cliff in hands of average player in Sim because of sub par avionics.
Sure, but
