Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

counting air to ground kills is dumb, do you include only people? tanks? buildings? air to air is so much simpler.

That’s why I’m saying that counting the downed is a dumb idea. The MiG-29 was an excellent solution for its time. And we’ll never know what it would have become if the developer had the means to develop it.

If it got consistently beaten by older airframes is it really that good?

Skill issue

For the 29 indeed

I’m not saying the fulcrums are awesome but training matters a lot, it’s the pilot not the airframe as some would say. Just look at the kd ratio of the USN planes during the Vietnam war, before and after reviewing their training program and military doctrine… it went from something like 3-1 to something like 20-1 iirc

So why did the German pilots manage to consistently beat f16s and F18s in their migs?

It was certainly because the airframe was just that bad

cus of how these kills were scored - with R-73

First of all why does it matter?

Second of all the Mig-29 showed that it can outrate the hornet and beat the f-16 in a one circle fight

Yet in warthunder it can do neither of them

From this, we can conclude that in modern air combat, a rocket plays a greater role than a plane.

To bad that gaijin doesn’t want to give the Mig29 it’s signature weapon

that’s not airframe who won, but missile.

could be dependent on which hornet and which F-16 in game.

in BFM - probably would say yes, in combat overall that would be combination.

you still can play 29G

still not the historical accurate

none of the Mig-29’s ingame (besides the 29SMT) should have the r-27er

germany also never recived the r-27t

cool. but you asked for signature weapon - in that context that was R-73, 29G does give you R-73.

sure and iam asking for the Migs to be accurate

one thing dosent contradict the other

When Pakistani F-16’s fought against pilots from the Soviet Union itself, they still went 10-0

against what?
Mig-21?
Mig-29?
Mig-23?
Su-17?

like your point is kinda pointless

It shows that the pilot thing doesn’t really work because F-16’s did fight against a powerful air force

so you are saying the US isnt?
because german migs managed to beat US pilots

No? My point is that F-16’s flown by a generally worse air force beat the Soviets in real combat, not some exercise which is the only place the MiG-29 does well
