I don’t completely understand how the f14 which weighs 19,000kg clean (21,800kg with min fuel) can have a better performance in 1 circle than the mig29 9.12 which weighs 10,600kg clean (11,000kg with min fuel) even if you put the mig29SMT to compare that 11,600kg clean (13,081kg with min fuel), I guess I just don’t know much about planes lol, it doesn’t make much sense to me, mig29smt suffered a lot due to the increase in weight but the f14 flies like it was made of paper

EXACTLY because the F-14B has better thrust to weight characteristics modelled.
The F-14 is an aerodynamic integral design like the fulcrum. However, it only generates 30% of lift in its wings as opposed to the Fulcrum which generates 60%.
The F-14 was more designed with supersonic maneuverability in mind. (Only jet in the entire world capable of pulling 7gs at Mach 2)

me too, that’s why I haven’t been playing for a month now maybe i played some custom battles to try some duels but i was getting annoyed when ppl go there with the blk10 ufo and just hold S and beat you xD

lol it’s a fun jet, only because it has high off boresight capability which is hilariously fun to kill with when it does connect.
Perhaps it’s a reason they are reluctant to buff it and why the R73 is “acting weird lately.”
We unfortunately cannot have it all. Though my motto has always been “you put the jet in game GJ, you put the whole jet in the game.”

Because I learned long ago in the game that if you do this. By the time they do buff the jet you will be so jaded you won’t ever play it again anyway.
i mean you can still score kills, air rb is different from custom battles where you can fight ppl with infinite min fuel, both planes clean to extract max performance and thats where the 29 suffers the most imo, in air rb you can still carry or have a good time even tho i hate aim9m lol, i stopped playing air rb cause i like to do duels, also after 2000 kills with the 29 i was already tired of air rb lmao
I was playing with the 29 like a maniac, you have no idea how much I wanted this plane in War Thunder, I managed to get the 2000 kills I wanted with it in the first 3 or 4 months after it was added, then I started just doing duels in cbs lol

The F-14 has variable swept wings allowing it to reduce its aspect ratio for better dogfighting performance, and has an ABSURDLY low effective wing loading (48 lb/sq ft (230 kg/m2) effective). Its not because gaijin has some sort of preference, its because the F-14 is incredibly well designed for dogfighting despite its size.
F-14 vs MiG-29 SMT is the difference between an aircraft designed to work with its weight and an aircraft with weight added on at a later date.

The F-14 produce almost 2x more lift relative to its weight than the MiG-29 though, and aspect ratio is a very underlooked portion of dogfighting ability. The whole reason variable swept wings became a thing was because it allows the aircraft to have the advantages of high aspect ratio wings and low aspect ratio wings at the same time, but they have the downside of increased cost, maintenance work, and weight, so they eventually fell out of favour

So is the Mig29 Myth.
The Mig29 was intentionally designed to be a quick reaction unit on the front lines and purposely made not to hold fuel that would hinder its high dogfight capability and insane thrust to weight.
the jet should be able to be tossed like a toy even in full internal fuel. Which is a 1:09:1 thrust to weight.
that is insane thrust for a tiny jet compared to the F-14 and Flanker.

Honestly, this is my personal opinion.
The F-14 only became a great dogfighter by circumstance instead of intention.
The Navy needed its heavy fighter to be controllable at low speed hence the many maneuvering flaps and spoilers. Which was a TFX program issue. It also needed to have high supersonic capability too (why the variable swing wings). The Navy also determined in the TFX program that a side-by-side pilot/Rio was terrible for carrier operations and instead had the requirement for high visibility in which Gruman placed the pilot and rio in a traditional tandem seat on top of the fighter instead of inside.
the M61 of course lessons learned from Vietnam and voila! An amazing speed demon naval fighter was born.

I agree about the smt, that thing is moslty a frankenstein tbh, although i’m not sure about the poor boys 9.13 and 9.12 current performance against the f14 in rb
