Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

i would think, that it is supposed to work like on the Su-17 where the pilot puts the crosshair on the hud over whatever he wants to shoot at

I thought it was accepted… went here to check and i would have thought it would have been fixed already

It being accepted doesn’t mean anything
They can still reject it or forget about it for an indefinite amount of years

anyone know the original source looks like its some documentary or news video? I am assuming the channel is Russian since i haven’t been able to find it

It could be this one but the video is blocked in Japan so i cant really check it

video is also unavailable for me as well sadly

T-24 is the channel name, i watched the ‘og’ video nothing too interesting… I would have shared but the site is less than ideal… (og from the article got nuked after stuff IRL became a bit not ideal… so no YT)

  1. Flare holes were not shown
  2. As you see here same Air brake as in Mig29M (in-game)
  3. Writing in red (caution carbon fiber)
  4. No flare dispenser on the spine
  5. Was deployed…
  6. Plane has 6k hour life time (assuming it is the aiframe body) apparently it is double the previous ones, idk which one exactly

Idk how but apparently engine swap takes only 58m cool i guess, and plane has even more composite + apparently some honeycomb filling is aluminium or fiber-glass / carbon for radio transparency reasons (antennas on the wingtips and etc) but idk how aluminium is radio transparent…

Models were dated a bit in a couple of places

They also called it 4++ with ability to hold itself in some parts against 5th gens… i mean if WT told me anything you need shit ton of flares / chaff for that so no…

Internal fuel tanks are up to 4tons from 3.6t and 9t engine thrust

NVM Here are the dispenser but idk, it doesnt look fatty enought to be the ‘package’ from in-game SMT

Hope it really isnt 18+18

ps why dont they just replace the fuel tank with drag container that spews out shit ton of CM like the one on the F18 variants

You mean like BOL pods?

As far as I know Russia hasn’t developed any sort of similiar countermeasure system that can be fitted to rails without compromising loadouts.

who needs more A2A or A2G munitions if you can just bring the Chaff or Flare S-8 rockets

No i mean zis, just put flares and chaff on it and let it spam at 1hz or higher, duh easy cm suite
image

you dont need chaff on a towed decoy

since it is a jammer

HUD vid of a newer version of the HUD symbology

possibly what the 29SMT uses?

the smoke

I don’t think modern IIR missiles concern themselves with S-8 rockets.

Idk why dont they put the double pylon extender on the mig29 (the one from center pylon’s of Su30SM 1-2 in the game)

Uhm… if towed thingie can jam why big flying thingie cant? /s

Somehow the footage of Mig29k looks much more eco friendly

Actually footage is from 2016 and u still can see Su33’s on the deck

On this one it looks more modern (barely visible yeah…)

sure but in the video i sent it already looks more modern than this

so at some point they updated the symbology

Yeah if only cameras back then were better, btw why are HMD’s glossy don’t u kinda need it to be visible to the pilot? Why not matte ?

bc you cant easily make a see through matte surface

and you kinda want your HUD to be see through

So, i was looking to find anything of note about MiG-29S models, and on airwar i found this paragraph

Due to the fact that the MiG-29M, which had recently been tested, was structurally and technologically quite different from the production fighter, and the new SUV used on it required lengthy refinement, it was decided to unify the new version of the twenty-ninth with the 9-13 modification mastered in production. It was planned to introduce new guided air-to-air missiles into the MiG-29S armament, initially designed for the MiG-29M, primarily the RVV-AE medium-range missile with an active radar seeker, as well as the R-27T with a thermal seeker, R-27RE and R-27TE with an extended launch range. The fighter’s weapon control system, called the SUV-29C, was to be built on the basis of the R&D Institute (NPO Phazotron) being developed under the leadership of chief designer Yu.P.Kirpichev (and then V.V.Frantsev) radar sighting complex RLPK-29M, which included the N019M radar and the new C101M calculator, and an optoelectronic sighting and navigation system. the OPRNK-29-1 complex. The improved RLPK-29M differed from the previous RLPK-29 in increased noise immunity, new software, and an in-depth integrated monitoring system and allowed simultaneous attack of two targets with two ARGS or TGS missiles.
(i used yandex translator, apologies)

This goes in line with MiG-29 combat manual where only R-27R1 is mentioned.
Now i am trying to look trough the sources mentioned on that page to find any substantial proof of that only SUV-29S is capable of using R-27T, R-27ET and R-27ER, so i can make a bug report. If gaijin doesn’t want to remove ERs and move MiG-29 down as a balancing decision - it will move them because all MiG-29s outside of M, SMT and N simply can’t use them due to technical incompatibility.

I actually only learned about this quite recently but apparently the older MiG-29s pre MiG-29S can’t use R-27Es.

Kinda makes sense since the MiG-29 was put in service before the 27E series.

Also, MiG (Or what I assume to be MiG) doesn’t mention 27E compatabiliy on their website on the MiG-29, aside from the MiG-29S and later variations like the SMT.

I remember some other sources being spread around the Forum a while ago showing that MiG-29s couldn’t use R-27E’s.

There’s also this, and an old thread about it.
