Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Dunno, i saw Mirage in the brochure you posted so i took a guess.

oh yeah, but i think all french mirages that received HMDs were only equipped with the scorpion IRL anyway and they never bought the Topsight for themself

Just the way I like it, obscure tech with zero references

well unless we get a Russian source to confirm it we are gonna be stuck with the classic xbox red ring of death HMS on the KR lmao

mirage 2000-5 got HMD based on a picture from brochure of sextant

Well, I gaijin has a proof that Sura-K can be installed in MiG-29K I’ll take it. As for now I haven’t seen a single cockpit with its sensors installed

or the НСЦИ-КОС perhaps?

I havent seen pics, only news posting that they replaced all ‘foreign’ supply chains with domestic ones by transitioning to НСЦИ-КОС but i havent seen proofs and sources date from 2020+, maybe cause ther is like 50~ airframes and the mentioned HMD probably is compatible and universal to Sukhoi line or Mig35

we have already collected enough proof for it on the Mig-35

but i think i saw a mention of it being used on the 29k but thats not enough of a source

these images are from an expo as far as i can tell, so finding the origin of those pics might help

@Pvt_Wade i saw what you deleted…
Su-35 will have the Sura-M unless there is some presentation about a HMD being used on it in the near future

Russian-language sources support that the Thales TopSight system was connected to the Russian Navy MiG-29K/KUB program and was not only a foreign export option. The 2012 bmpd article, “Нашлемные прицелы Thales TopSight для российских МиГ-29К,” states that RSK MiG and Thales signed a contract for 24 Thales TopSight helmet-mounted sight/display systems for the Russian Navy MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB aircraft. The same source states that this system was selected for installation on MiG-29K/KUB carrier-based fighters intended for the Russian Navy. A later Russian source, bmpd / Сделано у нас, “Серийные МиГ-29К/КУБ в окраске и с TopSight,” is more important because it provides evidence of actual installation, not only purchase. It states that the Russian Ministry of Defence contract covered 20 MiG-29K and 4 MiG-29KUB aircraft, also designated MiG-29KR and MiG-29KUBR, and identifies a Russian MiG-29KUB “Blue 52” during flight testing at Lukhovitsy with the French Thales TopSight helmet-mounted target designation system visibly installed in the front cockpit. RussianPlanes.net supports this identification by listing the photographed aircraft as a MiG-29KUB 9.47SR, bort number 52, operated by Russian Naval Aviation / 100th OKIAP, confirming that the aircraft shown was Russian Navy, not Indian Navy. Therefore, these Russian-language sources show that TopSight was contracted for the Russian Navy MiG-29K/KUB program and was actually installed/tested on at least one Russian Navy aircraft from the MiG-29KR/MiG-29KUBR batch. Although the clearest visible installation is on the two-seat MiG-29KUBR rather than directly on the MiG-29KR 9-41R, the evidence still demonstrates that the system was used on Russian Navy MiG-29K/KUB aircraft of the same naval production program.

none of those are a source

Yeah, but I haven’t been able to research it much, it’s complicated

Yeah sadly, I think the Thales HMD addition is frozen for now. until some more info that can be used pops up
