The MiG-23 IRST currently does not provide range information under a lock.
is it possible to get MLD in germany?
no
it is the final evolution of the mig-23, which didnt get exported, to germany
No, MLA is likely the best they will see on that front, likely by the time a MLD upgrade could be floated for WARPACT nations export variants of 29 and SU-27 were likely beginning to proliferate.
I don’t know if I should expand my current bug report, or make a new one but the range at which the IRSTs seem to detect targets is also very under performing. Manual states that a non after-burning MiG-23 in rear aspect at 10km height should get detected at 23 km~. I have tested this in-game and currently under perfect clear conditions the tracking range under those parameters is 11km~, severely under performing.
I have also gone through some of my documents in regards to MTI and I am very happy to say, that another manual I found very very clearly says that the BS modes can be used, in clear day and in look up. Once my TP-23 bug report gets looked at I will make another one to report this issue. I may also be able to argue that the MiG-23M/MF should receive this capability but that one is a little bit more difficult
So the planes that would get the bs modes would be the ml, mla and mld then?
Correct
MLA and MLD should have it. I will make a bug report soon
does mig 23MLD have to change its pylons in any way when switching missiles from R60 to R13 or is it plug and play and does it use same wiring
The R-13 is carried on the APU-13MT while the R-60 is on the APU-60-1M or APU-60-2M
can you put APU 13 mt on mig 29A?
No
New bug report, the MiG-23MLD is incorrectly equipped with SPO-15 instead of SPO-15LM
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/AXcMoWVPsHOM
would that even make a difference ingame?
Its just about making it historically accurate
Is the MLD’s radar better than that of the ML in game? I know it was better IRL so im wondering if gaijin actually bothered to implement it
I think Gaijin is already quite fed up with all this fuss around the MiG-23. From a consumer’s perspective, it would be much fairer to rename the ML to the MLD since they introduced the plane in the exact configuration it was originally sold in (when I bought it, it had the SPO-15). At the moment, I consider the ML to be one of the worst premium aircraft for ASB. Its radar is a Soviet embarrassment, the SPO-10 has no friend-or-foe filtering, the cockpit visibility is terrible—all it has are missiles and speed, but that’s of little use when you have Mirages and Viggens nearby with far superior equipment. Right now, I see only one solution that might interest Gaijin: the option to upgrade the ML to the MLD version for Golden Eagles, similar to the F-89B → D in the US tech tree. Since the MLD is now in the researchable tree, I’ve recently preferred flying the MLD over the ML, so I’d like to have this upgrade option.
My English isn’t strong enough to properly post this suggestion on the forum, so I’d really appreciate it if an English-speaking player could create a formal proposal about this issue. Here are the key points to include:
- Original Configuration: The MiG-23ML was initially sold with the SPO-15 RWR and had significantly better flight performance than it does now. Later, Gaijin removed the SPO-15 and nerfed its performance, while the MLD remained largely unchanged.
- Historical Feasibility: Upgrading the ML to MLD standards was done in real life. Technical bulletins were issued for maintenance crews, and these modifications were performed in active military units—no factory return was needed.
Of course, such an upgrade wouldn’t be free.
Yes, some MLs were upgraded to MLD standard and exported without some of the structural upgrades recieved in the Soviet ones. However that would just transform the ML into the MLD, and would not justify another $80 premium in my opinion.
I believe i remember the Iraqi Air Force modified some of their MLs with SPO-15s taken from other aircraft. I’d have to look into it
Try flying the F-4E
