Yes I know the MLA exists, it’s just not how it was called exactly.
No, the ML is different than the MLA in terms of avionics, like the radar, and gun sight most notably.
The MiG-23ML has the same gun sight as the MiG-23M, even tho I believe there was another gun sight like the ASP-23DTsM, but I can’t remember if it was for the ML, while the MLA got the ASP-17ML.
What changed was also the radar from the RP-23ML to the RP-23MLA or N003, so more radar modes filtering, ECM and more.
You know, if we ever get ECM, it would be a nice feature which could differentiate 23ML from 23MLA in game terms
The documentation explicitly states that BS modes also work in clear weather, but the detection range is slightly reduced.
Translate:
“The radar in BS mode remains operational even in simple weather conditions, but in this case the range is slightly reduced, especially when attacking targets flying higher relative to the fighter, and escort losses are possible.”
“BS2 and BS1 modes can be used both in simple weather conditions at altitudes below 2000 m, and when attacking targets from top to bottom (against the background of the ground).”
At a minimum, it would be possible to enable BS modes to search against the background of the earth from high altitudes. After all, it’s written in the documentation.
I agree with that. According to radar logic, there is no difference in how much noise there will be on the previous scan frame, because the previous frame will be subtracted from the current frame without background noise, as well as without interference. The essence of this mode is that it subtracts the contents of the cell of the previous scan from the contents of the cell of the current scan and gets a differentiated result at the output. If there was a moving object in both cells, then as a result it will look like noise where it is now and negative noise where it was last time.
However, due to the lack of technical documentation, it is impossible to prove exactly how the filtration worked.
R24 missile series were supported by mla radarvariants and beyond as per wiki. Considering ml can carry r24, it could be that the radar for it in game is MLA
So we still have hope.
What if I told you the MiG-23MF can carry the R-24 IRL?
The Libyans and the Syrians I believe were the ones who retrofitted them.
The ML in game has a different radar, it’s just that not much changed, and it is likely that the R-24 was just retrofitted to it, as we know that IRL the ML couldn’t carry both R-24 types.
It can’t, if they were retrofit they would require the modernized radar and pylons… would fit the ML standard.
It is just an error the devs made, since “MLA” is not a real standard, only a name given to aircraft upgraded with the Sapfir 23MLA or MLA-II radar.
The other modifications include ASP-17ML gunsight, improved weapons pylons for mounting R-24 series, and in some cases countermeasures.
Well, I’m not going to argue about the MLA and ML thing but
On Tom Coopers’ “MiG-23 Flogger in the Middle East”, it does mention it
idk how credible is this, I’m still skeptical, and I am definitely not willing to have R-24s on the MFs or Ms in game
Tom Cooper sources are dubious at best and generally omitted from bug reports the same way Janes is for that very reason
We are so back. Support this everybody:

Oh hey its me! :)
They denied the report again. What a joke.
“Same source as the previous report. There is no additional source to review.”
Maybe if you’d actually read what the source says then you’d see that the previous report was actually correct. I don’t even know where to go from here it’s at a point where they just actively ignore information given to them.
If anyone knows if there’s any other way to get this looked at it would be nice. Maybe someone I can message or something
You can try sending a dm to one of the technical moderator, so that one of them can take a look at it.
It is well known that they don’t read or they are not able read the reports. It happened to me once that I reported incorrect vehicle names in the game and then I got a message that the error had been fixed. When I checked it, I found out that they had only fixed half of the submitted list. So I wrote to the moderator again that they had only fixed half and he wrote to me that they had fixed everything that was in the report. I had to literally draw arrows for them in the original list, showing what they had fixed and what they had not. Luckily, they were able to read the arrows so they fixed it afterwards. I think this will be a similar case.
@EstrogenKitten Try looks here if here wont be something useful for this case:

Looks like page 11 can be useful.
