So I just bought the MiG23ML and it is great. I can get around 2-3 kills each match using the r24r and r60m but my question is how do you use it? What missile loadout? How and when do you use your missiles? Where do you go at the start of a match?(i.e left or right). I just want to use this information to develop my playstyle. Thanks.
You answered your own question. Use the r60 on slow targets that are engaged. Not much else can be done honestly in a 16vs16 game
Two R-24Rs and four R-60Ms.
R-24R is probably one of the most overperforming missiles in the game.
24R at long range, especially head-on. R-60M ideally only fired from behind. The seeker is capable of all-aspect, but you’ll have a much greater hit probability rear aspect. When you’re locked to a target, your radar scope will tell you if you’re within the estimated Rmin/Rmax for the missile you have selected.
At high tier air RB, you don’t want to be the first person seen by the enemy team. You definitely don’t want to get involved in a turning fight in the middle of the map where anyone can third-party. Stay fast and stay with your team is my best advice. Generally people don’t climb because it increases the range of missiles, and the 27ER is too much of a threat. Another thing GJN ruined by adding it so early.
Unironically suggesting R-60M/MK to be fired only in rear aspect, where its the literally at its weakest.
Their seeker is so wide that it will likely relock if you don’t counter it right.
The issue isnt seeker but range of the missile.
2 R-24R, 4 R-60M
R-24Rs from headon on targets flying mid altitude, almost a guaranteed kill.
R-60Ms in rear asect from short distances, like <1km, and from headons in short distances too.
I stay at mid-low altitude so I can search for targets on my radar but low enough to stay on SRC MTI mode and not LD.
…
Ability to track the target is much more important than range.
You can have best tracking missile in the world and it wont mean anything if it cant reach the target.
Yes, R-60M/MK can track well, but rear aspects are the worst possible launch position for them due to extremely short range.
I wouldnt launch R-60MK in rear aspect unless i was both extremely close and had massive energy advantage. Im talking 800m to 1km range in rear aspect.
All missiles have a shorter range rear aspect…
But firing rear aspect all gives the defender the lowest chance of dodging it, assuming you launch within WEZ.
