Honestly, I feel like the MiG-29N is the absolute worst 13.3 I’ve ever played in the entirety of War Thunder.
I feel like it should be 13.0 but remove the R-77’s and it would be fine, practically just a MiG-29G copy but with different camos.
It really feels extremely overwhelming just trying to even get close to use your missiles while basically being the Russian 9-13 with NO upgrades outside the missiles, and trying to dodge as many FOX-3’s as you can.
I’m still stock because I don’t even get the chance to get close, and when I do, I just get jumped by a Gripen E or F/A-18E which I stand absolutely no chance against.
It’s really really bad trying to even play this aircraft like, I can’t even get 1 kill without having to do the most to get it.
Every match is a 14.0-14.3 uptier and no matter what I try, it’s basically back to the Hanger within 5-10m of trying.
It’s really overwhelming and it sucks considering the Fulcrum is one of my favorite aircraft lol (even though it’s practically mid-to-bad in WT).

I mean at least in my experience, this thing has NOT been performing like an average 13.3, at least with what I’ve experienced…
But for now I’ll wait, just would like to see others thoughts on this aircraft honestly.
it was always destined to be a worse su-30mkk/mk2/j-11a just due to the amount of missiles it carries. I agree with you, it should really have just tried to be a mig-29g analog instead of being a 29smt analog
true I personally I was more interested in a new mig29G instead of a mig29 SMT
though at least this is a less chunky mig29smt
The MiG-29G is on the low end of 13.0 as well. The truth is that no MiG-29 in this game is going to be any good until they decompress and/or fix the flight model
Compression sucks but its been great farming them in the F16AM for the downtiers realistically wait till we see some decomp, seems that gaijin is gonna go the route of the Su-27/F15 and wait until we drag them kicking and screaming to do any form of decomp
12.3 to 13.3 is very compressed. i love the mig-29, idk it’s just one that’s not that great but i enjoy playing it. there needs to be a mig-29 rework with decompression. f/a-18a should be moved too 12.7. the f/a-18c early should get aim-9m and moved to 13. f-15j and f-15a should stay at 13.0 because of how underperforming the sparrows are compared to r-27er. su-27 and su-33 moved to 13.3. all 13.0 fox 3 should be moved to 13.3 except for very under performing fox 3 airframes like the the harriers and f-5th tcu. fox 3 mig-29 and early fox 3 f-16 stay at 13.3. moving the new premium su-30s and other 13.3 to 13.7 and moving everything up. and balancing some of the the old 13.7 to keeping them down or moving up to 14.0. the new eurofighter and Rafael and su-30sm2 to 14.7.
as for the mig-29 rework. FM needs to be updated and export mig-29 9.12 should get only r-27r with the r-73. at 12.7. the mig-29g, sniper and mig-29 9.13 should all get the r-27er and r-73. at 13.0.
i’m sure there are things that i missed or could be better but that’s my quick idea of how to fix 12.3-13.3 and the mig-29. i’m happy the new mig-29N has its r-77. we have so many mig-29 without the r-77 and the russian mig-29 9.13 should get its r-73s
Yeah, I’m trying to spade this thing right now and it’s terrible. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The flight model is abysmal, it’s radar is so bad it would probably benefit from removing it and saving the weight. It probably wouldn’t be so terrible at 13.0 with the removal of the r77 but we all know you’re still going to get uptiered 90 percent of the time.
The MiG-29’s in the game dosen’t have the correct flight model that’s why it feels like junk. Its good in real life and on paper and the reputation is good as well. Its not the BR that’s the issue or your flying. Its the fact that the developers don’t add the true performance of it and hype it up based of the reputation then the plane does nothing of what it can do based on its reputation.
I’ve spaded his thing and it’s definitely not as bad as I lead on. Mediocre at best I’d say and not very good at all in an uptier. I think the biggest issues are still the flight model and radar.
I would actually rather fly this thing than the f18D at 14.0.

It makes me think of the F-16 OCU of Thaïland… 13.7 I think with aim-120A and 45 flares of a regular caliber, ATLIS without thermal for CAS at the same BR…
We don’t talk about THE SADDEST toptier. I think it should be at the same BR as the Kfir C.10, 13.0. It is the same issue : an overly modernized 12.7 : bad radar, 6 fox 3’s of the first gen, and good fox 2’s, but avaible on a lower variant (mig 29G and for the F16 there are a lot of F-16 with 9M’s at lower BR.)
And if we compare it to planes at the similar BR : Su-30MKK. I won’t even say something. 6 PL12, a total of 12 air-to-air missiles ( double as the Mig-29N ) without talking about the flight performances.

I also created a similar report last year at the F-16A OCU. It’s been a year since it was approved, but the OCU’s BR is still stuck at 13.7 lol
this plane is pure ass but Gaijin refuses to actually decompress aircraft in any meaningful way so a bunch of premium SU-30 get to be the same BR as this awful struggle bus. Its just so off meta it hurts. Honestly would have preferred it as a copy paste german model cause the slightly better flight model means nothing compared to the SMTs radar.
The F-16 ADF play better, the SU-30 play better, I haven’t got to play the JF-17 but thats about the only 13.3 I haven’t and its supposed to be a strike aircraft foremost but I bet it probably feels better too. There is multiple 13.0 aircraft that feel better than this thing.
Flew it a bit more, Why does it only get SPO15… Literally worse RWR / Radar than SU30 and at a lower missile count… Atleast i could win one time against them in a dogfight.
Didn’t Malasian’s upgrade its radar\rwr ? I heard there were (is) 2 versions of early and late ones (later getting newer radar) and “something” about only later one supporting r77 ?
Honestly noticed how much worse it is than competition once i got into 14.3 battle…
