Major Russian contract for R-77-1 air-to-air missiles
I think mig29k should receive the R-77-1 because it would add more 14.0 jets, we only have a little of it
imo they should add a mig-35 with r-77-1 and let that be 14.0
I don’t think its current loadout with high G and sustained Missile should get any better.
Welcome to the Official War Thunder Forum, we’re pleased to have you here!
I kinda agree with your opinion but I think Gaijin wanted the MiG-29K to have the standard R-77 in order to make it an obtainable research version of the MiG-29M. Not just that but to also keep it in the 8th rank.
Agree, no point in grinding it if you already have the MiG-29M with better loadout and faster FM. If it was 14.0 with r-77-1 it would be something different
Given the fact it constantly gets pulled up into the bracket above it, and lacks ERs to apply pressure at range, yeah. 77-1s should be provided.
So far most matches have been everyone being taken out before they’re within the missile’s range, or if they are within range it’s usually because the team’s disintegrated.
I’d prefer if that got the R-77M instead, although I don’t know the first thing about Russian aviation history when it comes to their modern aircraft so that might not be possible. Perhaps there’s other MiG-29K variants as well?
tell me you havent flown the mig29k without telling me you havent flown it
only russian 4th gen that carries the r77m is the Su-35
*operationally
including it into any other aircraft is a matter of software update most likely.
I have. Have you?
The massive drag penalty it gets past transonic speeds kinda ruins it. It’s better at slow speed acceleration and gets a bit higher sustained turn rate in a dogfight. But the Mig-29M is so much faster after Mach 1, and the rip speed is also far higher, plus with the ability to bring 2 extra R-77 instead of a pair of R-73
Why not just have both?
Honestly I don’t think it would make much of a difference to its actual effectiveness in battle either way but it would detrimentally give Gaijin a reason to raise it’s BR because “R-77-1 are a top tier missile”. It’s already one of the strongest 13.7s in the game, comparing with the Su-27SM it trades missile range and total loadout size for better maneuverability and a way better radar.
At close/mid range where ARH’s are most effective the R-77 and R-77-1 perform essentially identical, whereas at long range the enemy has ample time to defend regardless and without the benefit of an AESA radar you don’t have the datalink power to produce a high likelihood of a long range hit once the missile is notched. Getting the R-27ER would be of far greater benefit because it is just way more threatening for a multiple reasons. Who knows if anyone will ever produce a document saying it could get them.
The MiG-35 could feature the R-37M to make it a bit different
Ngl R-37M’s are gonna look comically big on the MiG-35.
Kinda like the Bison with R-27R’s.
But since you’re gonna get rid of them early, it won’t ruin the looks for long.
In current wt maps those would be a “0.5 second into the match” release missile lol.
We will see half the team’s loadout being released as soon as the match starts, with all the meteors and stuff
Playing at like 15.0 with mechanical radar? I can respect a bit of masochism, but this feels beyond reason. Unless it will be an amalgamation of MiG-35 testbed owned by MiG with AESA radar and serial production airframes with all necessary avionics. But this still opens the slot for IRL MiG-35 configuration at 14.0
