Mig-23M or Mig-21Bis

Personally I use it 8 and 4 last I took it out, as the chaffe are handy against F4E’s and such.

Though last I checked the Mig23M used Large caliber ones and pops one at a time, rather than two so it should be 12 full pops u get.

So as well as that, the missiles you start with I believe its 2 x R60. which isnt much and they are flare hungry .

use them as you would an R60, close range, about 0.7km to 1.5km, only above 1.5km if you are going above mach 1.05 and closing the gap quickly.

As well as this the wing sweep is something you will have to manage to make the plane perform, the automatic mode is handy for newer players though, so if it is too much to get to grips with at once, try that.

The radar set is a bit of a mixed bag. It has MTI mode which is like Pulse doppler as it filters ground clutter.
However the caveat is, it can only be activated below 1500 meters altitude. and if the radar is pointing below the horizon

so effectively to use the R23R’s which are okay missiles not great or terrible, you need to point the plane below the horizon and under 1500meters alt

other than that, its just a case of play and figure it out as you go too

R60m is pretty hard to use compared to longer range missiles, if you launch it at anyone paying even slight attention outside of 1km its gonna get flared every time, and its max range depending on aspect is around 2km and with name tags its gonna be hard to get easy kills on people not paying attention which honestly is a majority of kills in missile brs sometimes.

The advantage it has is it pulls hard off the rack and if you drain someone of energy in a dogfight and can get the seeker on them in basically gun kill range its pretty much a guarenteed kill if they arent preflaring it.

so I test it the R-60m using other aircraft about at the speed of 800km/h fire it at range of 0.6 it did got the flares however is too late the flares is too close to the aircraft causing it elevator damaged.

So i basically fly as low as possible?

No, because then the MTI mode wont work, if you want to use radar missiles you kinda have to stay in a dangerous position to make the radar even half worth it.
Realistically you also do not want to fly directly into the game, circle around either the right or left from your spawn, towards the enemies…

You want to come in at an off angle pointing down folks at about a 30 degree angle.

Ok and i also just heard about J out in the airfield you can change loadout and fuel?

That only works if you

  • land , Repair and Re-arm-
  • J out while not moving.

But the mig23 M can carry 4 x R60Ms and 2 X r23R so you dont really need to land and J out. I also take about 14 minutes of fuel , hwoever I do not afterburn the whole time.

Ok and about the Radar i used the button “4” for Locking target on radar for other aircraft it work very eaily however for every russian aircraft i tried i have to spam that button in order to lock it.

So the radar isnt a case of you push the button and it turns on.

For some reason jn game you can spam it and it wont work .the mig23m is no different here and sometimes its a headache to get to lock onto a target.

So realistically use the r60s as your main goto while using the r23rs as a backup for folks running away etc

like the radar is not going to work in the first 5 minute of the game

Nah not like that, like you have to be pointing at certain angles and such for it to actually pick up a target. it the block on the right will keep you informed

can you show me how??

WDYM , use the radar thats on the hud on the right hand side of the screen, itll shwo you if there is someone within the lock range or not.

i spam it, it changed it scale from 30-90km and always lock the target from the far right

the scale change is not radar locking, it is changing the radar scope distance I believe.

Do you have much experience with higher BR radars at all?

Genuinely asking BTW, as if not, I recommend going and giving defyns radar guide a watch

no it my first time.

Okay then i recommend watching some radar guides man, specifically the one i mentioned

I have watched it however dosen’t look like working for me. as you say the Mig-23M Radar will work above 1500M and it look like you have to choose at the right timing to choose your target… when the green line hit one of the enemy target it identified you gonna have to quickly react and lock it or else it will bounce to other targets.

The radar you ahve to be below 1500 meters and poitning below the horizon for the MTI mode to work !

so Nose dive to make it work better?
