Anyone else encountered issue with bison being unable to STT from TWS whenever you are not flying horizontal? The radar attempts to STT waaaay above TWS track. It works ok when enemy is actually above you by quite a bit.
this is from perfect TWS track
whenever i try to STT from tws and iam not perfectly horizontal, it does this.,
I just have issues with Russian TWS in general. They seek to struggle to pick up targets and keep a soft lock after the initial ping.
Thats mainly due to refresh rate, the more sweeps over target in quick succession you have, the more reliable TWS track is. Russian radars mainly on MiG-29s and Flankers currently scan slowly on top with too many bars and the scan is wrong so it takes 2 times longer to scan top bar than it should (so far i encountered this issue on all radars on planes)
Thats not problem of radar on bison, you can use narrow two bar scan which is really quick.
It literally scans bottom bar two times in a row and then repeats the scan from bottom. Essentially doubling scan refresh time of top bars which is completely wrong.
On top of that, there are usually overlaps in bars irl, not sure if its present in WT but if not, that would help aswell. This issue is in game for hell… i dont remember if it was ever correct.
This should be the most basic scan. There are obviously more complex scan patterns in modern jets but THEY NEVER go one way and then do same exact scan backwards. They always swich bars so their coverage is as quick as possible.
what we have now, is literally scan pattern from top to down and then repeat of excatly same one from bottom to top. Instead it should be like on left, where it resets back to top and begins to scan the pattern.
This is 4 bar typhoon, look how it also resets at the end of scan pattern to the beginning so its top and bottom bars are updated as quickly as possible. its not repeating its pattern backwards.
This would
1 - buff already potent western sets, especially modern ones with quick scans
2 - make russian sets usable in TWS, still worse but ACTUALLY USABLE…
Good note, Su34 doesn’t have this issue right?
i have no idea to be fair
In theory RN PESA is just normal scan but speed *1000 or sth right? IDK tbh, but seem to be the case for Tor and stuff like that on the floor.
if it does, its probably not noticable due to very high scan speeds.
You still need some time on target (dwell time), early pesas are not much faster, if even that, than late modern mechanical scan radars. They can get more creative with TWS updating though. But even that is possible in mechanical radars, captor-M is capable of these updates outside of scan area (vertically) where it always points on priority target when its scanning azimuth of that target, it will even leave scan area in elevation, go outside of bars and update that track.
Same thing can be done in pesa. Generally they scan fast but its not insant, its still “slow” but actually really fast, just not as fast as many think.
If you just go for example, scan over whole bar within 0.01 second, your dwell time wont be enough and target wont be picked up.
