Description: The Bf109 G4 was the third version of the G variant. It was pretty much identical to the G3, but the G4 was not pressurized. It was one of the Gustav variants most commonly produced during the war. During 1943, the Italian air force, the Regia Aereonautica, was lacking a good number of fighters to counter the allied air mass. Seeing that the Italian industries were not able to produce an adequate number of aircraft, the Regia Aereonautica placed an order for 40 in the G and F models. 10 of them were G4 or R6. Those aircraft were given to the 150th Gruppo Caccia deployed in Sicily to defend the Italian skies from American bombers. When the Americans started the invasion of Italy, they arrived at the airport, and they found that a good number of BF109 were still in good condition. They also captured some of them. The one used by Italy was the G4/R6 variant, armed with two additional 20-mm gun pods under the wings.

Why it should be in the game: it can be an interesting event/premium aircraft since it will offer good performance and good weaponary. it could also replace one of the Hungarian 109 since this one is Italian.

What is the difference between G2 and G4? It’s a +1 in any case

Small correction, the cowling guns are 7.92 mm MG 17 as used on the G-2.

From The Warplanes of the Third Reich:

Produced simultaneously with the Bf 109G-1 was the Bf 109G-2 which was identical to the parallel model apart from having cabin pressurization equipment deleted, and the latter was, in fact, the first version to attain service status, although the Bf 109G-3 and G-4 were delivered at virtually the same time, these differing from the Bf 109G-1 and G-2 respectively only in having FuG 16z R/T in place of the FuG 7a.
