Merkava 4 armor is long overdue to be buffed

In which time he said that?

Wonder if thats the weight without the barrel and other internal components.

27:10 the talk about the weight

This could be potentially useful to compare it with merkava mk4 possibly

143k pounds with the barrel got it.

Crazy ingame it appears as 65.5 T, lighter than the merkava mk2 lol. What I fear most its that gaijin one day increase the weight but forget to fix the armor.

Yeah it really makes no sense as to how the merkava mk4 are all so drastically different in size and armor layout but remain damn near the same weight in gaijin logic. If this is correct in this video then that means every merkavas weight is mislabeled/wrong. For a merkava mk2 to weigh over 70 tons according to these guys in the video which they confirmed. Means the merkava mk4 85+ ton figure would be possibly correct

Therefore warrants the armor buff gaijin doesn’t want to give because of “armor discrepancies with weight”

Anyone remember when we were close to getting spall liners for are merk mk4’s? I wish this could still happen

Anyone have official knowledge of not having spall liner integrated in the armor? Or any at all? Hard to think that a design that prioritizes crew safety over everything doesn’t have such a measure.

This is making me cry

Sad to see how hard this thread is dying out. I’m guessing everyone is hanging their coat up on this. Which I guess is justified given that it looks to be no hope to fixes for the armor of the merkavas or namers or anything really.

If we can’t have armor then we should at least get the spall liners. It’s said to be integrated within the armor. And it’s just hard to consider the fact that Israel wouldn’t have spall liner in a tank that emphasizes crew protection over everything else. Either armor buff/changes to accurately represent SLERA (which would be accurate then) or give the “iron vest” anti peal spall lining that is said to be integrated into the armor. It’s hard to think that gaijin actually looks into any of the Israel armor doctrine when it is exact opposite of what it is. Edit: namer for example as well. 64 tons of nothing. Merkava mk4 should be 70+ even 80 tons. It’s even from Israel public videos and sources themselves that talk about that weight. Which gaijin again doesn’t buff the merkava mk4 cause of weight inefficiency. ( just saying again cause people still think this isn’t a fact this is what a voice from gaijin said)

Internal spall liner embedded into the armor is one of the most pointless features, when last layer of armor is creating spall. Then you have usual question of it actually existing instead being someone coping mechanism, but it still doesn’t change fact modelling it will have no effect in game.

I agree with this personally as well. It’s just the merkavas aren’t competitive at all in top tier. And they need some kind of edge. Either the spall liners that are supposedly in the merks. Or the armor buff/rework cause the report for it has been accepted for years

I still would like to think that that internal layer of armor (if said integrated spall liner) would still stop a lot of initial post pen damage. But that is in theory as I have no idea how effective integrated spall liner in armor is. Again though Merks could use it or get the armor buff that was accepted years ago

Gaijin won’t really do anything :(

Indeed, Merkava changes are down to Gaijin’s whim entirely

I have a feeling gaijin will also mess up the armor of Merkava MK.5

IRL, “internal spall liner” is still pointless when you have steel plate as last layer that would catch most/all of the spall created beforehand. But the same last steel layer also likely produces spall of its own and this is what kills you in game. Then Merk4 have relatively simple steel citadel for turret and hull, similar to Abrams approach, to which you bolt on composite armor packages on the outside. Making funny composite/spall liner sandwiches with steel for citadel plating, as this final layer kinda undermines the point of entire design and makes would-be post penetration repairs so much harder than just plugging the hole and replacing composite section.

Every meaningful application of spall liners by anyone known to use them is used as final layer. Didn’t one of self proclaimed Israeli tankers here also denied existence of anything resembling spall liners on the inside?

You make a great point. If then not having spall liners it should at least get the armor rework. The report has been accepted with comments locked for years now. So there is some evidence of it being wrong on gaijins part.

What Gaijin needs to do is revert the changes they made to the composite bolt-ons, essentially they changed the armour KE multiplier to 0.1x or 0.3x RHA, meaning 10mm of composite is only worth 1mm (or 3mm) of protection against KE threats, this is why despite the immense weight, the armour feels extremely weak.

They recently did this to nerf the effectiveness of roof composite in order to let the LMUR and other CE based weapons be able to 1 shot the roof of Merkava Mk4s, so in reality Gaijin has done mothing but nerf it since addition.

The Merkava Mk4 LIC was released without these negative KE multipliers, meaning it could actually stop shots as the composite reflected a somewhat decent amount of protection, yet was changed after a week lmao

How does the report thing works? It shouldnt be already fixed if it was accepted?
