Merkava 4 armor is long overdue to be buffed

With the Merkava Mk4 coming online in 2004, and knowing how Israel’s engineers were connected with GM, Hyundai, and most major tank manufacturers in the world. Israel’s engineers weren’t working with old outdated knowledge. There is a reason South Korea worked alongside Israel along with most Western powers, in the development of the K2 Black Panther. Furthermore 90s really isn’t that old when most tanks in service date back to that era.

What they gonna do with all the produced tanks when new ones come ? Scrap them or leave them be ?
War in UA is a perfect way for western nations to show “support” by cleaning out their outdated crap and giving it to them. It’s basically a win-win situation for those nations.

I’ve seen more than enough articles talking about things like: “X country to donate n amount of [insert outdated crap here] to UA in return for discounts on newly bought 2A8s.”

Useless tank for SK’s needs to be honest.

In your self-introduction, please don’t mention that you don’t know much about tanks.

Please do point what part of my comment is wrong.

This is incorrect. the NBC and AC unit are in there. Good job gaijin wow.

‘Hydraulic Pump’ will mean that even a glancing blow (through the inaccurately thin armour’ will completely knock out traverse too, gaijin is simply unbelievable

i think you are wrong

btw someone have good photo of:

  1. turret horizontal drive Merkava 3\4
  2. hudraulic power pack Merkava 1\2

On the turret its very much real against 700mm capable rounds.

there adding a hydraulic pump to a tank that uses an electric turret drive? incredible research over at gaijin.

its not final. Merkava 3/4 will receive power electronic, not hudraulic

The Merkava’s design specifications clearly demonstrate its focus on anti-tank capabilities. This fact cannot be denied. Egypt has equipped several variants of the KE-W, one of which uses the M829A2 with a tungsten core. Furthermore, these projectiles existed before the Merkava Mk4 entered production. Given this information, it’s understandable that Israel would view them as a formidable threat during tank development.

Therefore, the Merkava Mk4 should incorporate corresponding armor. When factoring in the defensive capabilities tailored to the line of sight (LOS) angles mentioned earlier and applying the calculation formula, the Merkava Mk4 can be defended against—indeed, its values approach those required for defense (meaning they don’t significantly exceed them, but the tank is designed for the hypothetical adversary). Since the Merkava Mk4’s armor is regularly modified, as evident from its appearance, it’s reasonable to assume that it incorporates armor designed to counter newer threats.

You’re now just assuming things to be correct.
Thinking one MBT made in 2025 is automatically safe against all pre-2025 shells, just because it was made after the fact is pretty naive.

Keyword should.
It’s now a fact that Israel pretty much hasn’t seen an enemy tank in decades and is only eating hand-made CE shells in urban combat, so me giving them 500mm of armor is more than generous.

Amazing! You’re wrong!

The Merkava has engaged the 9M133 multiple times. It has also engaged the Almas ATGM. At the very least, it has engaged the 3BM42 countless times. The Merkava is fitted with armor (and to NATO standards, no less) because recognizing that this has long been a threat and needing protection are the reasons why.

Did you know the 3BM42 has 520 mm penetration? (LOL).

Never knew those are KE projectiles lmao.
Hand-made CE projectiles being the biggest and most often threat of Merkavas is a fact no one can deny, not even the biggest Israeli glazers.

Against what and where ?
Mind you, BM42 is like a 40 year old projectile, so being safe against that in 2020s is probably the least you can do.

It’s not in the game so you should focus up.

Did you forget what you just typed yourself?

It’s not in the game so you should focus up.
This game is based on historical facts. Theoretically, 520mm is required.

But since you seem intent on nitpicking, I’ll indulge you.

Let’s go with 457mm or more, following the game data.

Now then, you’re https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/5d/25/62/0325e9ce247740/US20100011947A1.pdf what can be read from these?
This is the patent for the Merkava Mk4’s first composite armor. Do I really need to explain everything you can read here?

Sorry, I forgot to mention something. This is my mistake.

You might have forgotten, but those handmade CE rounds—they only penetrate about 750mm. That level of penetration can be handled casually by KE defense.

I really messed up this time, I’m sorry.

Your tea-leaves-left-behind theory seems to have made my fingers go numb.

Based on historical facts maybe on paper, we all know this isn’t true for many modern and not so modern vehicles. 3BM42 has way less than 500mm of penetration in game, which is what I was using before.

Not really when you take into account those CE rounds can easily come from many different areas like the sides, back or even the top, as Merkava is usually deployed in extremely urban areas.

That’s why I said I’d do it willingly.Did you read the text?

I never said to provide 500mm protection all around—you gotta understand that…

I’m saying it’s possible for the front section of the vehicle.
