Meet the Auction!

The reason is that prices on marketplace are largely depends on amount of skins distributed in trophies. Which is generally maybe ok, but still seems like Gaijin affecting prices by random.

My post ? Where is my post ?

So, here the last 100 bids.

That would be better in some terms, but there would be no rev share for skin creators (or rev share in SL). That still may have sense, but that would require discussion with them, and so there was not sense for it in first experimental attempt.

That’s not blind auction, as anyone can see how much they should bid currently to get thing.

This is blind, cause you need to pay more and more to be sure that you’ll get it.

Players will bids faster and faster till price increase to the top

They show you now only the 6 lowest bids that qualify to buy the item. This way people won’t be able to figure out how much money in total Gaijin gains with these auction.

That would be public information ofc (how much Gaijin got from this Auction).
We change what is shown (lowest bids that will actually work) for users convenience - you see what you need to bid (currently) to get things
PS AFAIK this information is still available, just not shown in UI. Not a big secret.

We are not willing to sell vehicles on Auction and via trophies/marketplace.

First of all - we do not like the idea of making our hard work available only for a few. That is in a way not bad for customization - as customization is a way to make you unique in presentation, but not in terms of gameplay. But not good for vehicles. We were making several time limited options to purchase vehicles in several cases for different reasons, but in general that is not we do like.
We prefer to see our vehicle be available for anyone it anytime (or at least at certain times). FOMO is real thing that will work in any limited options (events, discounts, etc), but not the thing on what you can make long-time relationship. And amount of vehicles in War Thunder requires long-time relationship, you know what I mean, I guess. That’s why we reconsider research times and prices each year and that’s why we are returning some rare vehicles like E100 or Maus (which we have and do not want to see much on the game cause of known reasons) to the game. So even such vehicles we do not want to put in Auction (and never wanted of it).

Another reason (not the main) why we are not going to put vehicles in Auction is that purchase in GJN are the best for content creators revenue share (or even the only option) , but they also not available for console players, which is also very unpleasant and obviously not we are happy about.

The reason of ‘refusal to deny’ is that are very old discussions (and as in most cases - come from players suggestions) is to have some kind of option to get vehicle (for limited time or perpetual) when you buy a skin (cause otherwise if some player want a skin but do not have vehicle - there is not much sense for him to buy a skin until he get the vehicle). We are not planning that anytime soon, never even have detailed concept (there are some complications in terms of research and game progression system). This thing (if would be ever made) would provide something like ‘oh, now they sell vehicles via Auction’, ofc technically it would be that, but obviously that would give an EXTRA way to get the same vehicle can be purchased via gaijin store\gold(premium)\ or regular research tree. Again, we are not even have a detailed suggestion, do not plan it. But this is an option of how to provide more ways for players to get the same vehicle, not a way to get extra money by replacing current ways to get vehicles.

Most developers are scared of how players can percept any changes in progression, store and everything. The Auction was made several years ago, being proposed before Marketplace, but as most are afraid of (some?) players reactions it hadn’t been released.
I personally think that Auction is naturally fit the idea of selling pieces of art (which skins are) so forced to give it a try. May be I’m wrong and no one like it. Or may be we need to change details of how it made (from amount of items which are on Auction to currency of it).

Hope I’ve addressed your concerns. Thanks.

The thing that keep coming to mind for me in all this is those skins aren’t even visible to all currently.
I bought some from the last boxes, and when I play with a friend who’s on Xbox (so can’t get those skins), despite the options all enabled correctly he never gets to see them, which means to me that a lot of people don’t see them, which kind of removes part of the whole point of the skins and why we as players may choose or buy them and use them too. Why would I continue to spend money on something I know isn’t really visible but to me?
It hasn’t been fixed in any of the recent updates either, despite there being a fix for something similar.

That’s just one example btw of why bugs and issues should have been a priority to address and put resources into before been considering implementing such a thing, such a thing it seems you guys knew would annoy the player base anyway from what you’ve said too. And yes there is bug reports in about it.
The fact the content being “sold” isn’t likely going to be visible to all being used is an extra kick in the teeth with this imo

Conversely I got the esports skins recently and they all display fine. It’s purely the marketplace/boxes ones that don’t display for all.
So maybe it’d be prudent to fix these things before implementing kore stuff nobody really asked for or wants.

There’s some brilliant suggestions in this thread too of alternate and much more acceptable and reasonable ways to sell these skins and stuff too, that isn’t an auction, it’s using the marketplace or store.

For the convenience of users you could just sell these items for a set price. For example, put a user-created unique skin on the marketplace that is available only for 7 days and it will cost e.g. 3 GJN. This way you will meet all the criteria you mentioned:

  • These skins will be unique, because time-limited. Even though I personally hate time-limited things, you can always add them back to the marketplace after some time.
  • You will reward content creators. The better and more desired skin, the more of them you will sell, so more talented content creators will make more money. We don’t need auctions for this, it only drives up prices and makes many players unhappy because they simply can’t afford to buy the skin they like.

And that’s exactly what players are afraid of. Buy a skin for a Panther 2, so you will be able to buy a Panther 2. Technically you don’t sell the vehicle, but in reality, you are selling the vehicle only to 100 people who buy the skin, so basically everyone who will participate in the auction will actually want the vehicle, not the skin. But they will have to pay for the skin and then for the vehicle. Yeah, amazing idea!

You just need to work on communication straight away play out your plans and the facts and make it plain to understand, we want to support you so if you said right at the beginning this…

“We are planning to create an auction, main goal is to bring content to player a story different way, a cut of 50% raise per bid will be given to content creators as a way of thanking them in creating said frame / camo / decal.

There is no plans to include vehicles at this moment in time and the first few sales will be a test phase, please let us know your opinion in the poll below and we will get back to you within 48 hours if you have any questions.

Have a nice day, we look forward to hearing your response”

Something like that

What I suggest you make a poll so the playerbase can vote and leave questions in a few days to a week do a Q and A on it and we take it from there ???

Gaijin promised there would be no premium vehicles. And then that they would never be top-of-the-line models.

We all know how that ended.

Communication is something that desperately needs to be worked on not an Auction. 4 days of backlash, concern, and questions and all we got was regurgitated comments from the initial post which didn’t answer anything. It seems that the only way to get an actual response is for the community to take their concerns to other platforms like Steam where now that War Thunder has dropped to mixed reviews we finally get an answer.

If this is what it takes to get some answers then why do we have a forum where everyone can discuss the game if the most effective way of getting answers is to affect your ratings?

All of this could have been avoided with a simple poll on if the community would like a feature like this, clearly lay out your intentions leaving nothing to be misinterpreted and most importantly respond to players.

Also, many players feel as if the time and resources spent on this would have been better off going elsewhere to fix bugs, add wanted features, and otherwise improve the game all of which you seem to lack the resources to do given the amount of issues there are.

That is a very reassuring thing to hear, exactly what was asked for. Straight to the point and not dancing around it.

I’d still want to comment a bit on the rest though.

Here, since it was said as “anytime soon”, not a complete denial, I want to add that any vehicle that is added to the auction this way should at the same time be available through different means.

So for example an ongoing event vehicle that can also be earned/purchased normally, a techtree vehicle that can be unlocked normally, or a premium vehicle that can be bought for a fixed price.
The issue is that as soon as auctions are the only current way to get a vehicle through the skin, you are no longer selling the skin with a bonus unlock of the vehicle. In that case you are playing into the lack of availability of a vehicle, which I don’t think should be done through auctions, but more accessible methods instead.

I am personally a fan of old event vehicles in the battle pass for example, and I’d appreciate seeing more of that instead of a shift to more limited means like the auction. Since these are through lootboxes I’d also suggest a GE puchasable reroll option, though that is a different topic.

But basically, I want to ensure that this

…always stays an extra option, and never the only one.

I’m personally not a fan of the auction as a mechanic, mainly because it may be a slippery slope towards more.

This game, like any other, has shifting priorities over the years. What once was no jets being sold is now limited to not selling the top BR or vehicle. Similarly, a shift from selling camouflages to auction exclusive vehicles will always seem to hide in the shadows.

I agree that it might seem appropriate for art, however when it comes to digital goods that theoretically come in infinite numbers I believe it is best to not artificially limit numbers to drive up the value.
It’s not necessarily the prices that bother me, it’s the (for lack of a better term) “gamble” around the price, and even around being able to buy in the first place. As well as that, a fixed end to the bidding period also favors certain regions over others for having more convenient times to check up on the bids before the end, which is not in the spirit of fairness either.

Instead, there are many other options you could consider. From more marketplace trophies, to weekly rotating “camouflage stores” as either GE option in-game or on the webstore like the recent esports camo packs, all of these have been suggested here and might create a more well received option to let user-made skins be sold.
They can still be time limited, but they would also have reassuring fixed prices and unlimited lots so long as they are available, which players can and will appreciate.
For the prices you could also work with the skin creators by having them either select their ideal price, or letting them choose from a few pre-selected options if that is easier. They don’t all have to be cheap, so long as they have fair fixed prices and unlimited lots.

Anyways, thanks for the detailed answer, this is the type of communication we need more of!

The teams behind developing the Auction and the game consist of different people; therefore the work of one team doesn’t impact the productivity of the other.

NOOO. Do not add this

Everything said here applys to cosmetics aswell what happens wen there is a skin everyone wants or just a huge Chunk of the player base like the Anime pillows
Even 10 000 is not enough

But the value for stuff only 1 or two players are interested in is down to starting price (GAIJIN you ARE now RUNNING A CHARITY)

And who decided what is convenient for the user? Who decided that it is convenient for the user to not see the current max bet ? I don’t remember seeing any comment here asking for such a change but it is incredibly convenient to minimize the uproar by not allowing the people to see the hundred-dollar bets and other egregious amounts.

This ain’t worth the overwhelmingly negative label in my opinion.
Meanwhile, last patch has unfinished content, Japanese aircraft have been missing ordnance for years,Hungarian tanks have been missing shells for a year now…etc (accepted reports)
Plenty of coding that can be done on better things

You are selling skins but what about missions ? Some players are making awesome PVE or PVP missions but no one exploit these.
There is already suggestion that no one talk.
Games modes are like abandonned.

Finally some longer awnser,
From an Console player POV the entire thing is just an middle finger, because you want to reduce the RNG factor which is good, but on the other side you guys are leaving these out who have to (suffer) more than anyone else with the RNG factor, because we cant just go on the market and buy skin xy which we want, but instead we dont even get anymore Exis to event vehicles(unless they are in the SL gamble chests) , all we can do is gamble for some skins… I was trying to get the Skin for Leopard 2PSO, in the end I had to gamble an worth of 70!!! Euros, for 1 skin which I realy wanted…
Sure I also got some other skins, se I could recycle, but still…
This is just realy sad, I would love to gave the snail money specially for some Event vehicles but the snail literally does not allow me to…
(Yes, I am well aware that the no market is an rule from Sony/MS)

As you already noticed, similar to the Gaijin Market, due to platform restrictions, we are unable to offer console players the ability to participate in the Auction for the time being.
