Meet Nuclear Escalation: Vietnam!

Yes, but apparently unlike your Kh-58s, the Buccaneer’s AS 37 Martel, of which it can carry 4x (and that can also be intercepted by Rapiers, which you can mitigate by firing off 2x at a single target) will only destroy the actual Hawk target lock radar module and nothing else on the site.

I’m just astounded that the Kh-58 has that much explosive power to wipe out everything surrounding the radar itself.

Also, Martels can’t lock onto Rapiers or the Hawk site’s CWAR either (not that CWAR has any use anyway though).

Well, it is a huge missile with a huge warhead, so this is kinda expected. Does AS37 also drop dead if the enemy radar turns off? That’s a big issue with Kh-58, so now I almost always fire mine within 5km or so.
I won’t deny that it is one of the best vehicles for this iteration of NE, though.

In my experience, the shrike can also destroy 1 or 2 other launchers when hitting a radar. The search/targeting radars and missile launchers are incredibly weak to overpressure.

The martels can lock onto the Rapiers, but they were easily intercepted on final approach. It is the same AS37 that can lock the AN/TPS-59 and Nebo

AA without radar should really have a limited their effective range to the 1-2km, where they can effectively engage and shoot at air targets, and are able to shoot them down.

Further than that, they could maybe begin to shoot at ranges up to maybe 5-8km (depending on the size of cannons, 20mm has a shorter range than a 37mm, 40mm or even 57mm), but only as a deterrent, where they would shoot at direction of the target, but not have a real way to guarantee a hit.

The reason i suggest the ranges i do, is from a small little research, on something like the Ostwind, it had a mechanical computing sight, that could roughly calculate the lead angle up to 2000m (~2200 yards), however the cannons had an effective range up to 6000m (~6500 yards).
That is also similar with effective ranges following the US army field manual FM 44-2, where it mentions that the 40mm has an effective hitting range of 1800 yards (~1650m) and it mentions “extreme deterrent range” of 3500-5500 yards (~3200-5000m).

And as you said, AI controlled AA should also have some some spread. Especially with those without radar. Even though something like a Ostwind or a M42 Duster do have a mechanical computing sight to calculate the lead, it is still a “person” that have to follow that lead and constantly having to recalculate with the computer. That part of human error should be present ingame for AI controlled AA.

I agree, however I think this is only a bandaid solution. The real issue is being able to re-arm nukes for free.

You can make them as expensive as you want, but if you can infinitely re-arm them, it doesn’t really change anything besides making them less accessible to the average player.

If Gaijin added nukes to tech tree vehicles (and disallowed them from being used in other gamemodes, preferably via a toggle in the match settings), while introducing a feature to prevent free re-arms, I think that would be the perfect combination.

Since Escalation will be its own mode; Arb, arcade and sim all get their own br’s. It would make sense to either curate the lists or assign another BR per plane.

Played grb fpr few battles and it feels stale with small maps and mega short battles. Give us escalation back please.

Had to come in here to say thanks Gaijin for introducing this mode. Hadn’t been active in the game for a good while and just discovered this. It is a fantastic breath of fresh air with the huge map, long-form gameplay and multiple things to do. It brings to light lots of units and weaponry that don’t shine or are often overlooked in the standard game modes.

There’s tons of good feedback in here from the players that needs to be considered for future events, most notably on my end, a curated vehicle list based on service dates or historical relevancy to the event itself. Would love to see all sorts of scenarios played out including WW2 and tying in some strategic bombing. It would be fantastic to have a WW2 NE-style event and Vietnam or later NE-style event live at the same time similar to how ground sim currently operates. Realistic and fixed nations to sides is also an important aspect to get right that just adds another level of awesomeness to this mode.

Overall I agree with others in that I wish this event was permanent, even with the work it still needs done to it, it is such an improvement in gameplay that I don’t even have interest in playing the game in any other mode now lol. Looking forward to the next chapter

agreed this gamemode is the most fun i have had in this game in a while

Yeah, should be more like the replacement for Enduring Conflict, not an alternative to regular ARB

I hope once this mode gets permanently added, it is given to all gamemodes. NE arcade, NE realistic, and NE simulator. And I feel like the realistic mode would be really fun if they removed the markers for enemy planes.

Still think that should happen in regular ARB too, but would want a test event for that first. But yes. Might make me dust off ASB

That would be cool, but the F117 would just be nigh impossible to kill at that point

Only if they add night battles (i really hope they do for high tier it would be really cool) otherwise you stand out like a sore thumb against the daylight sky. Also if you go too high your contrails reveal your position as well

At the current br? No, it isn’t impossible to kill.

I guess now we should expect radio silence for 2 weeks minimum before any news on the gamemode :(

God forbid they just leave the event up for people to have fun

Yea atp it should stay because its more than just event, its prototype of new mode. And I think it would be better to build it piece by piece based on feedback instead of suddenly dropping major update for it and receiving lots of comments about issue here, issue there etc.

Maybe they do that because making it time-limited brings more people to play it in a given time frame, so it generates more data
