Meet Nuclear Escalation: Vietnam!

(For reference this is equal to about 5 mins of jet tier air RB, and that image doesn’t include the 37k sl I paid in spawn costs)
Something should be done about the RP economy because it is pitiful. The SL economy is also objectively worse than air RB due to spawn costs being oddly high, while also not having any dynamic repair pricing based on time alive.

they probably will, but moreso for the addition of 5th gens

Also another bit that peeves me about the midfield targets; small bombs were often dropped over an area to disable radar stations and launch platforms, but does nothing. Why no lore accurate lil bombs :(

This.

The gamemode would probably be way easier to balance and actually work the way they want, which as I understand it, is that we do actual SEAD and use teamwork to accomplish it. Rather than the current play which is literally just: rush to get a nuke and then use that for the entirety of the game.

Plus gaijin, you’ll have to remove the nukes for WW2 anyway… just get rid of them, they’re only a gimmick and genuinely just make it harder for you to balance this gamemode (and it shows).

I’ve got to admit, the most fun I’ve had in this gamemode was using the JDAMs with the F117 to do deep strikes while stealth. Using the aircraft like it was meant to… while it would have prob been easier to just nuke the stuff it was actually fun.
(Granted the F117 is a bit Op for Vietnam era and should prob be removed but so should many other planes (All aspect IR ect)

Yeah… Its basically

Use ASM to sink ships, good luck getting close enough to use anything else

Use ARM to kill SPAA, good luck getting close enough to use anything else

Use Nukes for everything else

They said they’d make the rewards good when it becomes permanent… tho I’d definitely agree that the current rewards don’t exactly incentivize testing the mode…

I was really hoping to have a reason for quad rack 100kg bombs on frogfoot or the like.

Yeah, Id be happy with a version without nukes, but instead refineries and deep strike bases from the previous events. Coupled with CBUs, specifically things like JP233 to take out airfields, and now you have an interesting gamemode

28x 540lb laodout on the Buc S2 would be really fun to mess about with, but it would be a waste of time currently

Exactly. They could do so much more and add so many cool things that would actually be needed if they just stopped clinging so deeply to having nukes in the mode…

Even if it just disabled the station for a bit, it would at least be something. But now it just nothing. Cannot follow doctrine :(

I’ve got nothing better to do while I’m stuck in queue, so I’ll leave my feedback while I wait.

My observations so far (playing both the American and Russian sides):

S-75 is completely useless. It’s trivial to dodge, even in the slowest of planes, and serves only to destroy people who thought flying in a straight line at high altitude would be a good idea.

HAWK is rather oppressive. It launches on you within seconds of taking off from your airfield. You can’t just out-pull it the way you can with S-75, so you are forced to actually go into the notch or drop down to multipath altitude.

Osa seems to do very little. It launches at you once, you shoot its missile down with a sidewinder, it then proceeds to just stare at you for the next 10 - 20 seconds while you blow up the entire S-75 battery it was supposed to be defending.

Rapier on the other hand will keep spamming missiles until either it runs out or you and all your munitions are dead.

ZSU-23-4 and M163 are deathrays, but they are so short ranged that this isn’t a huge issue. They only really kill you if you do something stupid or if you didn’t see them in time. They do tend to intercept a lot of munitions though, which can be irritating sometimes.

The nuke aircraft not having countermeasures is not great, and the Su-7 in particular having a rear aspect only RWR causes it to die to HAWK with no warning annoyingly often.

I’ve also experienced some minor bugs such as bombs sometimes clipping through the ground, and missile diamonds not updating their range display, but these are relatively infrequent and aren’t game-breaking.

What I think should change:

In my opinion, either the HAWK version we have right now needs to be replaced with an earlier (lower performance) model, or S-75 needs to be replaced with something closer to the performance of the current HAWK.

The gun SPAA should also probably be a little less accurate when shooting at munitions, since planes in this BR range have less payload capacity compared to higher tiers, so they cant brute force their way through the SPAA as easily.

Anyways, I hope the balance of this mode improves. Maybe if it does, the queue wont look like this anymore:

I really do wonder if the devs are even hearing any of the stuff that’s being discussed here tbh. I’d definitely hope so…

Somehow, the SAMs are the least of the threat on both sides.

I do think the only real reason the gun SPAA aren’t a massive problem like the earlier playtests is purely down to them not having the range to really oppress you, I don’t think they actually changed much about their AI. It’s still more or less a bubble of death, just the bubble is smaller now so it’s more manageable

My leading cause of death is enemy fighters. But surprise VADS / Shilka is a pretty close second. Although most of the time when I die to VADS its because HAWK forced me down to low altitude.

Once HAWK and S-75 are dead I just go above all the SPAA so I don’t die to random convoys I didn’t notice fast enough.

I have been shot down by an m163 at 8km. At mach 1.

The difference between the S75 and HAWK is laughable. The Hawk was able to shoot my Israeli A4E well behind friendly lines at 4km of alt.

The S75 on the other hand is so bad I was able to dodge 4 of them with a B-52 by lazily banking left…

I just got show down by an M163 going at 60 km/h in front of the convoy with pinpoint accuracy through the trees…man why would they invent all these modern SPAAs when all they needed was a M163

So far the only thing I have found to work against the cancer is the Chinese 130mm rockets

I mean… 8 km is still better than 15… right?
