Meet Nuclear Escalation: Vietnam!

I meant that, if you were to remove the spotting system and have no markers for enemy aircraft, the F117 would be a lot harder to kill… because it would be harder to find it.

They said the gamemode would fall by the wayside as the development of the new update is underway. In essence this will probably mean we won’t see another test until after the update is released. So yea, probably going to be a bit longer before we get any new news.

As for the reason they don’t have it open the entire time…
One reason might just be due to server upkeep as they have stated it’s a relatively large load on the servers. Another is likely to be them wanting to review the data they gained without constantly getting even more data. Lastly, they probably just have the thought of, “it’s just not done yet” so they don’t want to have it be permanent.
Though this is just speculation on my part but it’s probably relatively accurate as to why they haven’t just kept it active.

At least we know they’re planning to have it be permanent by fall so it should in theory be permanent by November at the latest.

They also said they are hoping for a permanent release this upcoming major update. I know that means there is still a possibility it wont happen, but I’m coping anyways

This is why I run the gray paint scheme. Haven’t been touched yet. I usually fly at about 9km.

In this case, I’ll go ahead and drop some of my feedback here. I’ll probably edit this to add some stuff as I think about it later on as well.

SPAAs

  • The AI SPAAs need to have reaction time and targeting accuracy errors modeled
  • The radarless SPAAGs should have significantly shorter engagement ranges, and should not be able to intercept munitions (I actually just saw this 2nd one in a datamine so nice job)
  • The SPAAGs in the new Vietnam bracket should replace the ZSU-23-4V with the ZSU-37-2 and the M163 should be replaced with the AMX-30S DCA. This way both team’s SPAAGs have a search radar that can be targeted by the ARMs at that BR range
  • The SPAAs should not be able to engage anything outside of their search radar scan zone unless the enter within 1km for the SPAAGs and 2-3km for the SAMs, unless datalink with other unit’s radars is going to be modeled.
  • The long range SAMs should not always spawn at the same spot. There should be more places were they can spawn, and it should randomly choose 5 of those positions for the SAMs to spawn at (for the 5 frontline SAMs), and if one of them gets taken out, it should randomly choose one of the unused spots to start deploying another site, until all the locations have been used and destroyed
  • At the top tier bracket, the frontline SAMs should be a random choice between 2 different SAM sites instead of all of them using the same one.
    • SA-6/SA-11 or SA-10 for the Russian team
    • Patriot PAC-2 or SAMP/T for the NATO team
  • I just saw in a datamine (I know this isn’t final, but still) that in the 1970’s bracket, the depot AA’s had a Roland and OSA added. I think this is a mistake for this BR range, and it should be reverted
  • Server desync on SPAAGs needs to be fixed. I have died more times than I can count to an SPAAG that appeared on my screen to be shooting in the opposite direction.
  • The ITO-90s on the 2018 bracket should be replaced with the ADATS. This would make it less of a 12km death bubble, and more of a “at point blank range, you are dead, but at further ranges, you can just bleed the missile of energy” thing like the 2s6 is. It can also have it’s search radar targeted by the KH-31, which from what I hear, isn’t able to target the search radar of the ITO. Only the track radar. Could be wrong on that one though, since I didn’t actually play the Russian team, that’s just what I remember hearing from people who did.

Mechanics

  • The large map size for the 1970’s and 1980’s bracket feels nice, but for the 2018’s bracket, I feel like the map should be larger still, especially with super long range SAMs like the S-300 on the frontline.
  • Towards the end of the game, there are a lot less convoys driving around and none of the dug in tank positions remain. This makes it so that the only thing left to do is go on CAP missions. Since CAS and SEAD is the main focus of this mode, there should be more AI ground activity towards the end of the match to allow people to keep doing CAS and SEAD.
  • In the 1980’s bracket, the mobile SAM systems that move with the convoys should be replaced with PGZ04A’s for the Russian team, and Gepard 1A2s for the NATO team, but still keep a small chance for the convoys to spawn with the current mobile SAMs. This would model how some convoys are more strategically important, and therefore get more protection.
  • The IFV’s in the higher tier brackets should not be able to laser you out of the sky from KMs away, especially since they have no radars, and the only one with autotracking is the M3A3 Bradley in the 2018 bracket
  • Nukes need to be made much harder to get, or removed outright. Currently, the meta is to run CAS/CAP for the first 10-15 minutes of the match until the first escalation level is reached, and then start flinging nukes at depots and airfields. This makes the game end much faster because everything then just gets nuked. And this is especially bad when you consider the fact that (at least for the higher tier brackets) a single plane fully loaded with CAS ordnance is just about as effective against a group of enemy vehicles as a nuke is. Things that could be considered:
    • Make the SP cost of the nuke significantly higher
    • Disallow rearming nuke planes on the airfield
    • Add a team-wide cooldown timer of 5 or so minutes on spawning in a new nuke
    • Make the escalation level that enables nukes take much longer to reach
    • Using these would also incentivize using nukes on more strategic targets, instead of on any random group of enemies
  • Add some more ground targets to hit. Stuff like the refineries and factories from the SEAD event
  • Add some AI air targets to hit as well. Stuff like AWACS and reconnaissance aircraft (which could also help to spot targets for their friendlies)
  • Assuming this mode gets added for other gamemodes like arcade and sim (it really should), the RB version should have enemy nametags removed.

Rewards

  • Rewards need to be increased across the board. Currently, for an hour long NE match, you get the same amount of RP as you would get for 1 good match of ARB that lasts 10 minutes.
  • Rewards for hitting important ground targets (e.g. long range SAMs, early warning radars, depots, ships, MLRS trucks, TBMs, etc) should be increased, since these targets are much more valuable.
  • The rewards for hitting ground targets in general should be further increased. This would encourage more players to actually play the mode for what it is made for (SEAD, CAS, but more limited pure A-A), instead of just spawning in planes loaded to the brim with missiles and spamming at everything that moves, as this is what I see the majority of players (at least on the Russia team) currently doing. This mode is meant to be more than just ARB with respawns, after all.

Weaponry

  • In the Vietnam bracket, flareless planes should be separated from all aspect IR missile carriers, or disallow loadouts with all aspect IR missiles.
  • Cluster munitions should be added for use in NE
  • Current MMW munitions in game that are currently locked to other guidance modes (SAL, IR, GNSS, etc) should be allowed to use MMW tracking in NE

Bugfixes

  • This bug that prevents IR/TV munitions from hitting convoy targets still needs to be fixed
  • Currently in game, IR/TV munitions will target a random module. This makes them often unreliable at actually killing the ground targets, because they will often go for the tracks, engine, or even the roof MG sometimes. But IRL, the vast majority of TV/IR munitions just target center mass. This would make them much more reliable at actually killing the ground targets

Misc.

  • RWR needs a rework. In the higher tier brackets, you end up getting lock/launch warnings the second you take off, making the RWR more of an annoyance than an aid for SA

For as much criticism as I have for this mode, I do actually really enjoy it. This mode is the most fun I have had in this game since I started playing, I just don’t want it to fall so short of its potential like much of this game has. I am looking forward to its permanent addition. I also really look forward to being able to use helis in this mode.

Hey. A fix has been issued for the next iteration. The Baku carrier will have its spawns limited to only VTOL aircraft, to prevent any confusion or mishaps on take-off.

Can you share any information on whether this bug will be fixed for the next iteration? And when that next iteration might be?

The issue is under review.

Ok. And can you share when the next iteration might be? :)
Or is it a secret

Oh hi there Smin, I’m not sure if you’ve already answered this somewhere but how’s your time in NE been?

Could you also take a look at this other carrier bug that’s been waiting for a fix for months? It was especially irritating whenever China was put on BLUFOR in Nuclear Escalation, and it also makes carrier operations impossible in Air RB and SB for the J-15T.

This is true. The only workaround is to lock the ItO with your plane’s ESM and launch the Kh-31s in IOG mode.

That still doesnt fix the issue where one side can carrier spawn, the other cannot…

Will both sides get catapult equipped Carriers?

I don’t think they know the concrete date/times beforehand. Just like patches, etc: They are working on stuff, when it is ready, it will be released.

You know our community: Imagine the outrage if they say “next soandso will be thenandthen”, and for some reason are forced to then delay that because it’s not ready as planned or some issues have been found…

Since all of the equipment and vehicles on both teams are based on either the US or USSR, there is no possible CATOBAR / conventional style carrier to add to the red team. As France / UK are not always on the Red team, we do not plan on intermixing their ships, as this would look very strange on the occasions where its just the USSR.

Hey. Its already known and forwarded to the devs.

Do you have any statistics on how many times it was just the USSR vs everyone else during the last iteration?

Doesn’t redfor only have 2 helicopter carriers atm instead of one aircraft + one helicopter/ 2 aircraft carriers?

Can’t they make red have catobar only when France/UK are in red team?
They could make it so each team has the ships of the nations on that team no?
