tank was never designed to fight against tank. It was designed to kill as much men in trench as possible and let the artillery move to destroy defence lines. So… okay? Why care?
It sure it pretty good for its rank and if someone dislikes it playstyle then its their problem :/
i do. I hate it with my guts.
That’s not how he meant “struggling”. You have 3K/D in it and you don’t even enjoy it! I take it as a sure sign that the vehicle is doing alright 😁
Then there is the whole ‘situational vehicle’ thing. Some people don’t understand that it is okay for a vehicle to be situational. It’s okay for a vehicle to not be good to spawn in some situations or even on some maps. Hence the lineups. The good thing about these situational vehicles is when the… you guess it… the situation is right, it is really time when that vehicle kicks-ass and takes names.
Think of the Maus and Pz2000 as a buddy cop comedy. Maus being Sgt Murtaugh and the Pz2000 being Sgt Riggs. One is always going on about being ‘too old for this s***’ and the other one is a bit mentally unstable, but together they get the job done. Thanks for coming to my TE- Lethal Weapon talk.
Lmao this is so fucking true. I also imagine every time the PzH gets a kill it says “just like opa!” but the grandpa Maus in question is too rough to just give open validation and grunts non-committally :D
Yeah, anthropomorphising vehicles is fun like that. Sometimes when I take the Tiger II or the Jagdtiger higher than their proper BRs and kill something modern-ish or do well in a match, I’ll type “grandpa’s still got it” or “WW2 sends its regards”, it’s amusing :D
Another “buddy cop” example of mine - I used to play a lot of 6.7 together with a veteran friend who really showed me the ropes of the game. He played France and I Germany. At the time the event EBR was still 6.7. Often our first spawns were EBR/Jagdtiger or EBR/Tiger II, and that’s a very effective combination because one flanks and one pushes, but it’s also visually comical to me because they really look like characters out of some cartoon. The small lethal ninja dude and the old grizzled fatass. :D
i like that comparisson better

What are you saying?
The Maus is played methodically and armored. Its angling protects it from HEATFS rounds above 90mm.
Its ammo allows it to deal with tanks designed around the same time as it, such as T-54 and M48 with relative ease.
How is that the opposite of its design?
I use Maus on many close range maps, as well as a number of many longer range maps.
“its because maus cant stay straight front and not get penned”
Going down the road east of B/C on Advance To The Rhine with the Maus is absolute peak superheavy gameplay. Some of my best matches with it have been there. Literal roadblock gameplay lol.
ahem The M48 prototypes (T48s) were designed in early 50s, not by the end of World War 2.
Even M47 is early 50s tank (result of combining T42 turret [which is a 1948 tank] and M46 hull).
EDIT: In the closing stages of WW2, main goal was improving mobility of M26 by giving it AV1790 V12 engine which resulted in M46
I always see the parallels to Tiger 1 complaints, though I see less Tiger 1 complaints these days despite the Tiger 1 being penned by even 4.7 things from the front.
Of course, there are 6.7s that can pen the Maus from the front as well: Type 61, M26 firing APCR, etc.
The difference here is there are more 4.7s than there are 6.7s in this case, yet only Maus gets complained about these days.
Are people forgetting their lessons from Tiger 1? Expecting Maus’s front armor to bear everything just because Tiger 2 fixed a lot of the issues Tiger 1 had in the front protection?
Maus has 180mm of side armor… for a reason.
The gun is indeed good, but the moment you encounter a remotely smart opponent who doesn’t try a dumb shot on your angled turret, you cannot do anything, for the moment you try to turn your turret to shoot him first he will pen your turret with HEATFS or APDS.
It’s clearly meant to be a rolling bunker akin to the Churchill series. I feel the exact same about the T95, T28, Tortoise, Black Prince, etc etc.
A vehicle THAT slow should not be frontally penned except by a specialized tank destroyer. Side shot, sure, go nuts. It does not matter what its gun is if it cannot safely bring it to bear the moment it encounters someone who isn’t an idiot who tries shooting it first while its angled.
As do I - but in order to make it work, I have to play it as if its a 188-ton block of glass. I can’t rely on the armor against even an opponent who lacks rounds to frontally pen me, because even cases like those can still barrel-knock me (T-44/85 is a good example). I can’t use the armor in any sort of aggressive manner to shove someone out of their camping spot, which is what a “breakthrough” sort of vehicle seems to be designed to do - to actively push. Yet if you try to actively push in WT with it, you get taken apart.
THAT is what I mean by “being forced to use it in a way opposite to its design.”
Thing is, I’m not comparing it to the Tiger 1. Tiger 1s can actually move. Even post-engine-nerf Tiger 2s can move at least decently.
But when spading the likes of all late-game heavies and heavy TDs, I was forced to play them like fat light tanks because of either LOLpen shells, barrel damage, or both ensuring that there was never a single potential opponent who couldn’t render me impotent frontally. This is not just an issue with the Maus - it was the same, if not arguably worse, with the T95.
It’s because a “breakthrough tank” can’t actually act in an offensive breakthrough manner. All it takes is one intelligent opponent to not try shooting first while your turret is angled to him, and there’s quite literally nothing you can do proactively. You’re forced to rely on the opponent making a mistake before you can attempt to shoot. That’s great for a defensive vehicle, but not an offensive breakthrough one.
7.7 is fine. Any lower and it just curb stops in downtiers.
What needs to happen is decompression. Which more players need to push for.
- Wont change anything
- Cant work
- Gaijin tried to but failed so bad people played arcade instead
- In what world you would need 15.0 when we aint even close to filling spaces at 12.0
