Maps lack important detail

Currently, the way maps/charts are shown in-game does not conduct well for planning. Some maps/charts are given relief lines, but steepness of terrain does little to help when you don’t know if it’s going up or down.

When looking at a map in a game such as War Thunder, I personally would expect to ascertain a general idea of visibility between sections of the map. Without the elevation being presented (as they are in Ordinance Survey maps), this becomes a memory game and makes good planning difficult.

Does Gaijin have any plans to add numerical indication of elevation, or are there any fan-made maps accounting for this?

Numerical elevation or spot heights would genuinely improve planning, especially where contour lines do not make the direction of slope obvious. A full surveying-style map may add clutter, but the problem could be addressed with a lighter combination of labelled major contours, hilltop/valley spot elevations and clearer relief shading.

For the proposal to be actionable, I would show one current map screenshot beside a marked-up version demonstrating exactly how many labels are needed at normal zoom. It should also consider different scales for aircraft, ground and naval maps, plus readability on console and small displays. Fan-made maps can help outside a match, but they do not replace consistent in-game information and may become outdated after terrain revisions. This would work well as a formal suggestion focused on planning/readability rather than a request for perfect terrain intelligence.
