Map rotation

I’ve been playing high-tier Ground RB for quite a while now, and one thing has become increasingly frustrating: the map rotation feels overwhelmingly dominated by small, urban maps.

It seems like every other match is on maps such as Rhein , Alaska , Cargo Port , Abandoned Factory , or Sweden . While these maps have their place, they simply don’t complement modern vehicles very well.

At top tier we have:

  • Main battle tanks with advanced fire control systems and thermal sights.
  • IFVs equipped with long-range ATGMs.
  • Helicopters and modern CAS.
  • Vehicles designed for long-range engagements and maneuver warfare.

Yet we’re constantly fighting in cramped environments where combat happens at 100-300 meters, and every match turns into rushing street corners or holding narrow choke points. It often feels more like a close-quarters shooter than a modern armored warfare game.

One of the things that made War Thunder stand out was the variety of combat. Large maps encouraged flanking, reconnaissance, positioning, and teamwork. Now, many matches are over within a few minutes because everyone is funneled into the same streets and capture points.

I’m not saying small maps should be removed. They can be enjoyable occasionally. The problem is the frequency with which they appear at higher battle ratings.

teamwork doesn’t happen in smaller maps? Not every game needs to be a massive thermal war you die before you even get to the cap points.Smaller maps get rid of this problem by getting rid of the need for thermals and introducing the need for extreme awareness.
