MANPADS Missiles and Overload: The Technical Details

Or using terrain as your background, they can see you but if there’s ground in your background they cannot lock

Easier said than done when it comes to defending against a SAM in a plane

I suspect that the game has an incorrect capture system. In reality, the Type81 missile flies according to a firing solution calculated using radar data, then during the flight, the missile’s onboard automation decides which channel to use as a priority, the optical or IR channel, the remaining channel is used as a backup to protect against interference. But with such a design, the seeker has a big drawback - bad weather/night or shooting in the clouds, the missile automatically loses the optical channel. And like the Stinger, it easily goes to IR traps in bad weather.
Type 91 (early version) most likely also does not have a channel selection, everything is done automatically.

I doubt that is modelled in game.

What I mean is, unless they’re in ir mode the optical can’t lock an aircraft with something in the background unless it’s clear sky, so yes you can hide behind a mountain or hill to dodge it or just stay in front of the said terrain because if the terrain is in the seeker fov behind you it can’t lock in optical mode

Can you share the first document please? I will be very grateful. I don’t have all the graphs from it.

the EO mode on the streale is unreleastic. the strela is a 100% kill guarantee if you get a good lock.

that is horseshit lmao. the agm65d has a lock range of 6km. that is very much in strela range.

Even Justinplays can dodge Strela.

by luck.

@Zannafrancy12
KH-38/Hammer/AGM-65D/G/PGM-3 lock ranges are not 6km. [The seekers are identical in-game right now.]

Show him 65D’s lock range of a moving target in test drive.

I tried with 65G and got a lock from 9km first time of asking, didn’t even try further away as 9km is already much further than claimed 6km. I guess 65D should act the same.

those are not 10.3.

That’s not luck, it’s just dodging at the right time.
Also, 65Ds outrange Strela.

65ds arent a 10.3 weapon. agm 65ds barely outrange it and are slows as balls. if you dont play braindead you should be able to defend yourself. and the mtlb platform is very mobile.

They are 10.7 weapon and easily outrange Strela.
I even got a 5km+ lock with a 65B.

Laser GBUs are, which have a range of 16km.

to get that much range from a gbu in grb youre essentially a free kill to radar spaas. and you arent getting 16km of range regardless.

Doubt early radar SAMs will kill you at 10km of distance.

to get 10km of range from a gbu you need plenty of altitude and speed, not to mention a good Tgp. in a full uptier i can see it being a problem, but at 10.3 not really.

strela is a short range system, and its as close to infallible at its job as spaas get ingame. if it was also good against long range aircraft it wouldnt be ingame.
