As things stand right now, the Commandant Dominé deserves to be removed from the game if it isn’t reworked.
First it was added as a “frigate”, so I don’t know where the devs saw that, because all documentation about the Dominé class it as an “aviso”, also known as “sub-chasers” in game.
Being a “”“frigate”“” it has a bluewater spawn, which make this thing, only equipped with a single 105mm and 40mm, quite trash at range. And its subpar speed mean you’re not doing sh*t anyways because by the time you get within range of things you can actually damage, the battle is over.
The battle rating is not an issue, being at the same BR as the other avisos in the french tree (Amiens and Arras). Those two have the right classification and a coastal spawn, making them playable. But the poor old Commandant Dominé has to suffer with an undeserved bluewater spawn…
i think historically, sub chasers were no different than a destroyer. they were just purpose built with the equipment to haunt underwater vessels. so yea, frigate is the wrong classification, but destroyers on their own were meant to escort bigger ships when traveling over open ocean.
dont worry, a moderator will be with you soon, telling you to throw this in the suggestion section, where you need to show atleast 2 books of evidence that its not a frigate, but a destroyer class, and close this topic. welcome to the war thunder forums, kid.
Yeah. I’ve been using it for the last stretch of the event, and by the time you’ve gotten anywhere near to the battle (If you weren’t uptiered to 4.3 and barraged to death in DD spawn) it’s already at least halfway over.
At least the AA armament is decent against smaller coaster vehicles, otherwise it wouldn’t have a single saving grace…
I’d honestly say it should probably be 2.7 or 3.0, feeling more like an Aconit sidegrade than anything and certainly worse than La Surprise at the same BR/Tier.
I got more damage from the 40mm than from the 105… the 105 is such in a weird spot, with awkward firing angles (sometimes blocked by some bits and bobs… very cool). I’m not sure the lower BR would help, as the battle would still be halfway over by the time you get there anyway. I’d say keep it 3.3 but with a coastal spawn, as I see it fulfilling a role similar to things like Drache, Aconit, Brantford, …
The problem with that being that it’s worse-armed and only mildly faster than Aconit, with worse firing angles to boot. It probably needs both a bump down to 3.0 (And the Aconit a bump up to 2.7/3.0) and to be moved to coastal spawn.
Of course, the major problem here is the insane compression of coastal vehicles thanks to bluewater’s existence, but Gaijin hasn’t shown a single sign of acknowledging that.
