The ones buying the jet, know the full capability of the vehicle as that is discussed in private among military procurement specialist in most every country. This is just a vague “we’ve increased radar range by 100%” comment that while it does mean something, could also mean he’s referring to irbis and being intentionally vague as he was through most of the interview.

You are right, they basically said that they “Nearly” doubled the range. So, thats can’t be more than 2 times more and its not even 2 times more.
Sounds like it really is a modification of an existing radar with “Nearly doubled” range. 250km or something, I guess?

So I did a bit more selective searching and from what I’m gaining is that the Bars-R is fully Russian with Russian electronics compared to the Bars on Su-30SM and the export frames, this also includes scan upgrades but not so sure about scan angles.
Edit: it also has more processing power.
