The issue is they are “fine” for WVR when compared to most SARH. But when compared to pretty much every other ARH missile, they are hopelessly outmatched. The Mica is getting 90°+ off boresight capability in this major update. They can literally attack from inside the notch. I dont think C5s having their extra 5G of pull and 0 guidance delay would be in anyway an issue.
Yeah. Im also not looking forward to the battle for the Mach 4.5+ flight speed given MBDA state Mach 3+
They aren’t. The MICA may outmatch them, but the A/Bs are very competitive compared to the R-77, PL-12/SD-10 and Derby/R-Darter
R-Darter pulls 40G. Making it equal to the C5 in that respect and R-77 still pulls 50G.
The only thing the AMRAAM is good for is slinging them off at longer ranges and running away. Especially as AMRAAM slingers dont get a usuable dogfighting IR missile either.
C5 was the last chance to give some parity between the Su-30SM and Rafale and everyone else, and they seem to have just given us a totaly useless missile. It might be harder to kinematically defeat at long ranges, but will be just as easy to notch.
So nothing will change in that respect and you will have to go on the defensive and runway much earlier.
Report them and then kill them
When i see PVE in Sim at least, i hunt them . I do my best to kill them with REALLY infuriating/absurd weapons, like AGM-65s or KH-25MLs.
You’ve never known true joy until you’ve nailed the same chinese guy 4 times with a KH-25ML, prompting him to call you a dog in 20 languages via google translate.
When they inevitably swap matches, i follow them , cleaning one match at a time.
My latest round of fun involves the AJ/AJS37 and 2x RB-05A. Those A-10s fall like flies.
I’ve done that before. Kept killing this guy and he got really mad and screamed in chat " Im gunna [redacted] kill you" switched to an A2A fit and then proceeded to try and dogfight me terribly and got slaughtered. Rage quit. I ended up swapping lobbies, only to find him again and then proceeded to kill him there too.
Was in hysterics when he rage quit a second time
So it is competitive. Raw overload isn’t everything and even if it was, having slightly worse overload than the Derby and PL-12 (and better overload than the AAM-4, forgot about that one) doesn’t mean it isn’t competitive.
The AIM-9M is far from unusable.
You are ignoring how important the individual planes flight performance is in WVR. The Rafale sure can be a monster, but the Typhoon is a great WVR plane as well.
The Su-27s, Hornets and F-15s are BVR buses (the Su-27s being much worse than the Hornets and F-15s), the F-16s and Gripens are pretty much jacks-of-all-trades. Not entirely sure about the Su-30 and the J-10, but both of them definitely are worse in BVR than the AMRAAM carriers.
It isn’t totally useless, it still is an upgrade for BVR in its current form.
I had something similar. I played for around a week really intensely , cant remember why, probably some plane i needed.
Anyway i was hunting A-10s with VIKHRs in my SU-25T , and for around 5 days in a row i ran into the same exact squad of 4 players. They were all (of course) bombing and hitting only tanks.
I kept nailing them, racking up to 15-20 kills per match only on them.
By the 5th day , they just left the lobby when i joined.
What really salts the wound is the use of absurd weapons, stuff that was never meant to A-A.
Like when i abused Mig23ML, with GBU-39 swarms.
just kill them all
It is still terrible in WVR comapred to R-77-1 and MICA EM.
The Extra range will be almost totally worthless.
Unlike R-73 and Magic II. It cannot be used in off-boresight and the IRCCM only really works in rear-aspect shots. This makes them pretty worthless for true dogfighting and is best used at longer ranges, which, it cant do because it has artificially nerfed lock ranges.
Rafale out-dogfights a Typhoon at the moment just with the guns. The ability to be able to fire a MICA or Magic II at 90° off boresight angles without even being on the Typhoons tail means that you literally cannot dogfight a rafale in a 1v1. Its just not possible. I’ve also had Su-30SMs fire R-73s at extreme angles and kill before I could bring guns to bear on them as they were pre-flaring.
Barely… Any ranges in which AMRAAM holds a range advantage over everyone else, is also the ranges in which they can be easily intercepted by an Su-30SM or just notched and chaffed. If htey had better notch gates too, then it might actually be a decent upgrade. The only upgrade I see is they have more energy for short-medium range shots but at the cost of a slower TTT than the Aim-120A/B. So I’ll probably run 2x Aim-9M. 2x Aim-120C5s and 4x Aim-120Bs in ASB on the Typhoon. (If I even bother playing it. its so buggy still its barely playable)
the vikhr has a proximity fuse mode for A-A irl and it was also tested against aircraft
True but irl its only useful against slow / large targets. If you use only the auto tracking the same is true in-game.
They key is to hit them with a weapon that will confuse them on the kill feed.
My absolute favourite thing about this whole thing is. They changed the SLAMRAAM missile to the 120C7 which pulls more G and accelerates much faster. They can just ignore the 120C5 and leave it as the bag of
A player did a test and the 120C launched from an aircraft at the same altitude and an R-77-1
and the 120C impacted a second quicker.
There is barely any difference between the 2 missiles. Now the 120 may glide more but the 77-1 can now do crazy off bore stuff.
Pretty sure the C-7 has the same stats as the C-5 right now
They aren’t not at that speeds you are travelling 120s really struggle to pull round.
the C5 was designed with a limited offsight capability and it’s been added missing most of it’s features.
Just as easy to notch, marginally and we are talking 1-2 seconds impacting before the A or the B
MICA and R-77-1 have received buffs the offsight bore capabilities have been massively increased.
Seems to accerate harder but honestly dont know
Last I checked it was completely copy paste. But I would have to check the missile data sheet from Gszabi to see if I remember that right.
