Major Update "Hornet Sting" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 4)

Thai gripen e has GaN radar so it should be enough to detect 5th gen i guess ? and so it would compete at max br.

It is interesting that if we just go by expected armament, the UK and US will have the two strongest F-35s.

We’ll have to wait and see if the rest of Europe arms theirs with Meteors, and they can’t use IRIS T anyway

That seems a shoddy solution for what is for a long, long time going to be the absolute top tier

the US, UK, Russia, and China all get 17.0s but everyone else has to make do with a 16.3 or 16.7

Also this is going to be insane

14 BVRAAM + 2 SRAAM

from what i know, an early GaN radar like that would just offer slightly better performance for its size

Depends if JNAAM turns out to anything

22,000lb? That’s nearly F-15E payload, I don’t think F-35 can carry that

Kinda just how it is tbh. And why are you assuming Su-57 is 17.0 worthy lol?

I want to believe in it but the few times i heard about it it was said it had the same rcs of a rafale so i’m confused.

Otherwise whatever is the case gaijin will heavily simplify/butcher stealth with some guess most likely.

18,000lbs is definitely confirmed by Lockheed themselves for the A, with 15,000lbs for the B.

Plenty enough for all that A2A ordinance

And in other news, the F-35B has taken its first flight with a Meteor

The JNAAM project has already ended in 2023, Japan started to develop an own missile, but there has been no news regarding that in ages.

Hopefully it will really end up fully integrated and they will not find an excuse lol.

I feel like that’s indirect confirmation that AIM-260 has been flown & fired successfully from an F-35

Perhaps there will be streaming again today?

Watch them just finish integration once meteor MLU hits market. And then they say they have to start over again for Meteor MLU

No, you’d better not

Maybe MLU could not need that and be compatible like normal meteor ? as i understand it’s just adding an aesa seeker, but yeah if the software change too much it might be needed.

That will probably somehow end up in the german tree with everything else because unknown reasons

By the way, apparently Italian F-35 are getting it too. And the one they flew it on was a USMC F-35. So that’s 3 nation F-35 that could get it. And if they test it on a USAF F-35A (since that is what Italy has), that’s 2 F-35 variant that can have it

All part of block 4

I thought the AIM-260 was going to be better anyway?

If you’re gonna beg for European weaponry this much, people aren’t going to take you seriously

Im confident it’ll be good, but until more information is released, can’t definitely say it’ll be better or worse.

And how is it begging if I’m asking for weaponry tested on US F-35? Isn’t tested weapons allowed?

it is funny that the best weapons on the F35 for the US wont be US for either IR or BVR lol
