Both are correct in English and for the most part it’s a dialect difference. It’s just that usually tonne is used for metric and ton for imperial.

In American English, it’s ton, whereas in Australian English, my dialect, both are used with it leaning more toward tonne due to being very close to British English.

fair enough, from what I can see the Rafale M has a total additional capacity of 14 metric tonnes, wheras the F-35B should manage 12.5 metric tonnes, so the Rafale is slightly better, but then I’d still take the stealth over a tonne and a half of payload
