Major Update "Firebirds" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 2)

I mean FY-5 is manufactured on large scale, but Relikt and Kontakt-1 are both being mass produced for replacement tiles on Russian combat vehicles, FY-5 is gathering dust in Chinese depots.

Isn’t the first gen on AZUR ERA?

Also TUSK is accurately modelled currently.

I’ll get picked on for saying this, but most protection kits for Western tanks have minimal kinetic protection. BRAT and BRAT-II have done well I will say.

Conveniently ignoring that Britains top tier aircraft for 4 years was the Phantom FGR2, with no new aircraft at all, only incremental upgrades that barely keep it in the fight and today is massively over BRed to the point its basically unplayable

Britain didn’t, we got the Tornado F3 in the same update Germany got the Mig-29. With a radar so broken that Skyflash STs just randomly exploded for no reason, so Britain didnt even get a good counter to the Mig-23MLA let alone something that MIGHT have a chance at fighting a mig-29 until 3 months AFTER germany got the Mig-29 when the F3 finally got a fixed radar in the June update,

Tornado Gr1 has weaker engines and a gen 1 tpod. it is overall the weakest tornado IDS in game at the moment. The PGMs are barely an advantage in GRB and with the recent BR changes, pointless to even take, Id personally take a gen 2 tpod over the PGMs anyway. But in GRB, Germany has a MASSIVE advantage in the form of the Leopard 2A7V, which should be a BR higher than the Chally 2. Even in SPAA Germany is far superior to Britian.

As for air… The weaker engines mean you are much slower, the slightly better bombs mitigates this partially but barely and only out-bound. We also dont have 2x Tornado IDS at 11.3. Which is a massive buff personally. As for Sim… The fact the Mig-23MLA is 11.3 but the Tornado Gr1 is 11.7 speaks volumes, the current situation in Sim means im usually playing hte Gr1 in the 12.0 bracket because then I might actually make it to a base without being shot down by a Mig-23. Germany can bomb all day long with virutal impunity in 11.3 and 11.7 matches.

Ingame AZUR is ERA, but it should be NERA.

Same problem with French ERA like on the Brennus, it wistand like 5mm for KE, when it should be around 100mm if Gaijin really worked on them. (immune to 20 or 30mm too)

But aren’t there like three generations of “AZUR” the kit, and the last iteration seen (UAE expo?) allegedly is NERA?

All must be NERA (not a name, just that it don’t explode if hit, unlike ERA).

And the other is CLARA, but i’m not a pro of UEA protection perhaps i mixup.

That’s a Leclerc with CLARA kit afaik.

I suppose youre right lol but all Western ERA is at the minimum 30mm resistant so we can say roughly 120mm KE id guess which would help quite a lot in WT to be properly modeled

Must be because you want it to be, or must be because that’s what it is in real life?

Resistant =/= immune! I hate to be persnickety, and I hope we see some marginal buffs to BRENNUS, but I don’t think the NATO protection requirement is even for sabot munitions at that caliber but the “standard” AP shell.

I do believe it is rated for Sabot but I could be wrong I have 0 proof on hand

Likewise, lmao.

AZUR should be NERA but you know, gaijin being gaijin

iirc, CLARA is ERA
So probably Chally 2 levels of first gen ERA because it’s western

Because that’s NERA IRL xD, not because i want it.

It’s Gaijin doing bad work and puting NERA protection kit acting like ERA.

Oh ok my bad on that then.

To be honest, NERA is hard to model with fidelity. ERA too. For now, we still don’t have actual ERA simulation. It’s merely a calculation that reduces shell penetration by type and per percentage. I can’t even imagine coding SLERA into the game tbh…

They certainly should provide better protection than they do currently in game, and some examples like the ERA on the Challenger 2 TES… it should have something like 3-4x the CE protection it does now

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/hUjNza9bvJyP

but also higher KE protection

Even this really annoying nugget where they model it with aluminium instead of steel for god knows what reason

They could fix the whole eastern ERA problem with one tiny thing, anti ERA tipped shells :p

Yep there is that, They model western ERA badly and probably model soviet ERA to be too strong and then dont model the fact most NATO shells can pen soviet era ERA :D

They’d need to (and should) overhaul the entire penetration mechanic at that rate. Darts have some modelling, but I don’t think they’re fully modelled. Armor certainly isn’t modelled correctly.

I mean that’s definitely an oversimplification, and Soviet ERA is quite good…

What isnt in War Thunder?

I still personally reckon that the relative level protection provided by soviet ERA vs NATO shells would be no different than Soviet shells vs NATO ERA. To the point where the difference in protection comes from the tank design, base armour and spall liners and the ERA is for the most part irrelevant to the debate.

if nothing else, we already see in-game tanks like the Abrams fielding the previous generation of shell (From the 1990s I think) and not the shell it actually entered into service with in 2008 because it would leave the soviets way too far behind in the dust, and yet the 2018? T-80BVM has its correct shell as far as I am aware.

I think they really need to put some effort into a ground up overhaul of ERA in this game
