“wElL um ActhUallY” (Sorry couldn’t help myself. What is existence if we cannot laugh at ourselves?) So yes, Brazil did fight in Italy during World War 2. However, Brazil did not fight Italy. They fought in Italy, to liberate Italy from Germany. Italian deserters even joined the Brazilian Expeditionary Force’s ranks to join in fighting the Germans and foolish fascist Italian forces remaining in Italy. Some members of the Expeditionary Force married Italian women during their time in Italy.
I don’t want to crowd the thread with a large post, so for those interested in a history lesson, click the spoiler to know more.

Brazil declared independence from Portugal in 1822, and in 1826 the Duchy of Parma recognized their independence. In 1827 an ambassador from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies arrived in Brazil. In 1836 Guiseppe Garibaldi went into exile in Brazil and he assisted in the separatist movement for the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul, he would then leave Brazil in 1848 and return to Italy. There he fought in military campaigns that led to Italian unification. In 1861, Brazilian Emperor Pedro II recognized the Kingdom of Italy under King Victor Emmanuel II, and in November of that year, Italy opened a diplomatic mission in Rio de Janeiro. A decade later in October of 1871, Emperor Pedro II traveled to Italy as a part of his European tour.
In 1875, Brazil began to promote migration to the country to grow its population size. Doing this they created colonies largely in rural areas for Italians and Europeans to migrate to. From the years 1880 to 1920, more than a million Italians immigrated to Brazil.
During World War I, Brazil declared war on the Central Powers following the events of several Brazilian merchant ships being sunk and captured. So in WWI Brazil and Italy fought together.
Now the Carro Veloce L3/38 was developed in 1938. In 1937, Brazil ordered 24 L3/38s which arrived in 1938 and were designated CV33/II. In 1938, Brazil ordered 18 L3/35s designated CV33/I, 12 of which were retrofitted to meet the specifications of the L3/38.
As war broke out in Europe, Brazil remained neutral until the 22nd of August 1942, when, and to no one’s surprise, German U-boats sank six Brazilian ships in the Atlantic leaving Brazil to declare war on Germany and Italy. (Germany really out there trying to gain the achievement of Public Enemy #1. ) During the war, Brazil sent an Expeditionary Force consisting of 23,000 soldiers who took part in the Italian Campaign. Brazilian forces fought predominantly in Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna regions.
So was there any bad blood created between the two countries due to World War II?
To be honest, the answer might surprise you. As soon as October 16th, 1944. Italy signed an agreement with the US on September 8th, 1943 to cease hostilities against the Allies and to cut ties with Germany. Italy then declared war on Germany on October 13th, 1943, and so the Germans took over Rome. Brazil’s Expeditionary Force of 25,334 troops arrived in Naples in July 1944. On October 16th, 1944, diplomatic relations were restored between Italy and allied countries including Brazil. Around the end of October, the Brazilian forces incorporated 50 Italian deserters into their own ranks to make up for combat losses, totaling 322.
From then onward Italian-Brazilian relations only improved with both countries agreeing to several bilateral accords.
In regard to my saying minor axis, I am wrong. But really it isn’t so much Allies and Axis beyond WWII.
Personally, I would like to see Brazilian vehicles in the game. They have some rather unique and interesting vehicles. I see several comments of ruffled feathers to my prior statement of transplanting the Hungarian subtree. I would say to add Brazil as an additional subtree, but had been informed that the tech tree lines are limited to 5 lines.
Bernardini is a Brazilian defense company founded by Italian immigrants.

It’d be cool to see any of these even as event vehicles, premiums, or even in the tech tree. Brazilian armor gets complex fast but super fascinating.
The Tamoyos reminded me of a tank I would love to see added to Italy, Leonardo’s M60A3. Maybe that is what Gaijin devs are working on this update for Italy ground (if any at all)?
