M900 post pen damage

Why is it non-existent like 50% of the time. Here’s the latest example.

It pens the UFP but does literally zero spall, ignoring the driver and killing two guys behind him. I have hundreds of shots like these where I shoot first but the round doesn’t do enough damage despite penetrating.

EDIT:

So, my initial reply looks like it was incorrect. Please see the replies below:

It is a lightweight dart. One of the lightest “bigger bore” darts. The cannons that fire it are “only” 105mm, not like the 120mm or 125m cannons that the modern US/USSR MBT’s use.

Compare the masses:

So, your post pen damage depends on projectile mass. The M900 has a significantly lower mass than other more modern MBT darts. Even though the M900 has a very good penetration value, it is never going to do the same resulting damage as a heavier dart after a successful penetration.

Wasn’t it debunked that mass played any role at all for post-penetration damage ingame, instead depending entirely on residual penetration?

Oh! I do not know/had not heard of that. If so, please do let me know and I will edit my entire post with the correct info. (You or anyone else who knows the ‘facts’, just let me know 👍)

I at least “THINK/FEEL” that I can tell a difference, I use light tanks most of the time, and have multiple tanks with the M900 round. And I “FEEL” that when I use a tank with a 120/125mm cannon cannon I get far more one shot kills as compared to the M900 dart.

MAYBE it is not the weight, and I am incorrect. I don’t think I am imagining less post pen damage/fewer single shot kills with the M900, and something else is the cause instead of the lighter mass.

Yeah, it only matters slightly on small caliber apfsds
