M829A3 — Why Now?

Who aims at a T80 roof top when facing it straight?

person that can aim. also it helps nuking them when they try hulldown. you cannot perform such trick with most other MBTs except Chinese (doggo arietes don’t count)

You forgot that only soviet/russia is the only nation with armored roof top? Didn’t you see the ERA at the top?

Also if you’re gonna shoot at the roof top and take out only one crew or you can shoot at the LFP and disable the whole tank or kill it even.

armored

do you spit random things outta your imagination? APFSDS don’t care about any “armor” that Ts at the center and forelock of turret

I mean, the breach routinely wats shells and doesnt take damage or era randomly eats a whole shell.

Happens dude, dunno why you’re so hostile.

Hey @Necronomica can you dig into these two posts?

Both show hidden armor modules in russian mbts that dont show in the normal game. Also shows some other concerning data that creates an unfair advantage.

I mean it’s a pretty strong and reliable weakspot to hit even if you are facing it straight on.

They do show up - sorta.
If you shoot at them via protection analysis, then you can see them briefly being highlighted.
You can also use nvidia ansel (if its available to you), while in Armor View and then go inside the vehicle to show them.

The third option is to download WarThunder’s Community Development Kit (CDK) from the Wiki, open the AssetViewer, search for the vehicle in question, open it’s collision file, enable “show face orientation”, click away the error and then go through the list of damage model parts on the bottom right.

That’s a lot of steps when they should just show up in game.

Thanks for telling me the options, I will probably do some digging and see if any western MBTs have this issue. I don’t think anything that impacts ingane shits should be hidden, and I want to be as fair as possible.

There are some missing platings in xray on various tanks, very often it’s the bulkhead between fighting and engine-compartment (too many tanks to list, but includes such from all nations).

However, usually those have limited effect on gameplay, wheras what is essentially a better spall-liner (doesnt get destroyed, doesnt spall itself but eats all low-pen spall aswell) and an additional armour block infront of the breech eating darts and spall (which is not even always present if the cavity between the trunnions and breech exist, see: Oplot) is quite a bit more problematic imo.
Especially because the armour around the autoloader on T-64/80 doesnt spall.

Nice.

Thanks for saving me a lot of work. Also, gonna say again that post you made was a fine piece of research work.

Glad I was able to find it again since I think it’s relevant.

Like I told some other guys earlier this week, we nato players can take comfort know that… even though we play at a disadvantage, we play well enough to make the russian players scream bias despite having tons of advantages over everyone else.

At the end of the day though, I just want transparency and equal treatment for hownthings are implemented or not. And I want all nations to have various counter play options to each other so gameplay can be fun for everyone.

That’s normal for all vehicles in the game, the internal modules you see in x-ray are just visual representations of the actual armor pieces. There are bound to be Armor stacked in a way that you can’t see it in the protection analysis in-game due to being covered by outer armor plates.

I do not comment on “datamines” like that, it’s very easy to make incorrect conclusions based on numbers you might not fully understand or have the full picture around. If there is something in the game that is believed to be incorrectly modeled then create a report for it. I don’t really have much more to say than that.

T-80U-E1 is only surpassed by T-80BVM in terms of games played.

Understood. Thanks for your perspective and response.

@Dead_Undertaker
367mm at 68 degrees is 218mm of protection from the armor itself, & 148mm from the ERA itself.

The front Relikt protects 204mm at 60 degrees.

What bias? Bias against Relikt for thinking it performs worse just cause it’s mounted on the side of the tank?
What’s your claim here?

I love to shoot at BVM’s turret roof before they even peek out to shoot at me, makes them really vulnerable to OHKs/breeches without even being able to fight back.

It’s really not a good place to shoot when the tank is exposed because of the huge amount of ERA on the turret, nothing can beat the LFP weakspot.

LFP will always be the best weakspot yeah, but the turret roof is also a pretty consistent and easy to hit.
