M47 Patton

Oh, crazy idea, you suggest new and unique vehicles that actually have a proper place in Warthunder.

Can you link your suggestions about unique Italian vehicles which could be added instead of M47 pls?

The M47 OTO

Isn’t it already in the game under a different name?

A +1 from me! It would be nice to see the baseline M47 pop up. As an interesting fact, around 3/4 of the preserved M47s in the US are actually Italian Built and operated M47s

There’s already a suggestion for a domestically modified M47 that has an downgraded engine but upgraded gun handling and apparently FCS (not sure what is actually added by this though), that allows the tank to remain at 7.3.

Not to mention, there are additional upgrades created by firms FIAT, ISI, and STM that all replaced the engine, so we could also get an M47 with better mobility than the standard U.S. one if you so prefer.

I want trees to display the arms industries of the nation I am playing, not a representation of what they bought from other countries; it helps with establishing actual identities for said nations.

As long as they clean up the USA skin for it because it looks like junkyard garbage at 100%

As far as you manage to find how exactly gun handling and FCS were modified. Although anyway visually it would be same M47 with just worse experience to play since it provides 90 hp less.

M47 with Leopard engine would be cool, but iirc there is no any photo of how it looked. I doubt the rear part wasn’t changed at least.

I don’t see anything wrong with the addition of the tank which was widely used by Italy, even if it isn’t ingenious. Imo more than 2500 exemplars in the Esercito Italiano is enough reason to add a standard M47 to the game.

That’s valid, of course I’m referencing the suggestion I linked, but it doesn’t provide any actual data on the upgrade outside of the general componentry affected, so I can understand not wanting something with so many uncertain values.

Probably the better candidate, provided more visual references can be found. My point is that there are leads to research, and we know for a fact that some of them would be guaranteed upgrades over the standard M47.

Personally, I feel that large quantities of imported vehicles should be represented via indigenous modifications and export attempts, such as the one I presented. It establishes that yes, the nation did receive support from a larger power, but also that they took the initiative to adapt the vehicles further to their specific needs.

And of course, Gaijin did recognize this, as instead of an admittedly boring copy of the American one, we instead received the 105 modification, which many now know as a unique Italian flavor of the M47, courtesy of the large quantity they had available to tool with.

You left out a very important detail that it’s completely copy paste and there’s other options that can be added.

So what if its copy paste.

Copy paste is bad

Trees are and should be a representation of the country’s military, not military industrial complex, allowing for a more historical and realistic game and gameplay. Prototypes are good and all as “what if” vehicles but should never come at the expense of vehicles actually used in mass service.

Clearly we are at disagreement then, the type of game War Thunder is does not really encourage accurate representation of each armed force, most prototypes and experimental vehicles can easily fill niches usually occupied by copy paste, and the addition of any copies are guaranteed to muddy the waters when it comes to originality.

M47 “OTO” if you mean the one without engine change would be a twin of M47 105/55, maybe even at higher br than 105/55 as it is already very good vehicle after vertical limits change. It won’t replace regular M47, which is 7.3 tank, plus for some people even such modification can be considered copypaste. Astra can be an interesting alternative, but we need more information about it.
And honestly I don’t care about copypaste anymore, more vehicles TT has is better. Domestic vehicles are preferred of course, but I’m fine with something to grind and put into setup without uptiering stuff. For example I would like to see Lancia 3Ro 90/53 at 4.0 instead of M44, but M44 is better than not getting anything at all. Plus maybe for me it isn’t that important vehicle since I have both Zrinyi I and Breda 52, but for those who only have Turan III and StuG, it can be a nice addition to line-up.
Anyway imao copypaste discussion is too old.

This has got to be the most numerous tank ever in the history of italy, right?
It should be in game already!

No, we do not need more copy paste ingame.

Depends. For a specific vehicle model, yes. For a vehicle family, no, it’d be surpassed by the L3 and M11/13/14/15, depending on what production estimate you take for the M15 and if you consider the M11 part of the same family (I wouldn’t, and if we did we’d probably have to take into account the 270 M26s which puts the M47 back on top)

1,200 L3/33; 1,300 L3/35 = 2500 units produced

740 M13/40, 333 M15 (alleged), 100 M11, 744 M14 = 1917 units produced

M47 = 2600 units

Using both the suggestion and wikipedia sources

I think the entire m47 family surpasses every single other tank type and family
